"Master" Evans is now closing his doors because "everyone in Medford is fat and lazy and poor" (according to him). The posts against him here are pretty accurate. I worked with him for almost 2 years and came to know him as a negative, full-of-himself windbag that hated everything about people. he puts on a good show so you give him your money though. I am glad to see him go and I hope that his Students find a good place to train. They will FINALLY find somewhere that appreciates their efforts and passion for Martial Arts. See ya "Master" Evans!

I moved here six months ago and was looking for somewhere to continue my training. I have a Black Belt in Kajukenbo and 3rd Kyu in an Okinawan Karate. Take my word after watching one class I could see this place will not teach you to defend yourself but gladly take your money.

Basic instruction from a grumpy old burn out who hates everything but your money. No BJJ, no Muay Thai. Just TKD with a "Master" jerk for an instructor.

coming from one of the first students that he had when he first moved here i can say that at first he was a nice instructor. but once u have gone there for about a year you realize he is a complete dushbag. one year right before i quite there was the jr Olympics I had surgery, my Dr said it was probably not a good idea for me to complete so when i told him he completely ignored me he never helped me when i needed it.so there was the first clue.master evens never gives you the respect that you deserve. i would never go back to his school if my life depended on it. if u want to go to a good no great tkd school i would go to ATC.and all u students who have not been with master evens that long you cant be righting reviews like this, talking about its not the teaching its just your kids arnt tkd kids. i know some one who has been doing this practily her whole life and i am sure she would not want to go back to him. so dont be rude to the people who you dont know but who know master evens (aka the dushbag and many more names)

I found Master Evans school an excellent teacher. Most negative comments below, looks like those people who can't handle the truth and just not happy anywhere,, They blamed everything to the school and Master Evans because their kids are not martial arts kids,, you can teach so many but only talented and those who are willing will success at it.. All the bad comments I notice it looked like are the one who been with Master Evans for a long time, but when things doesn't go their way, Of course,, they will always blame others but themselves,,, Ever since we moved here from another taekwondo here in the valley,, I will never wanna go back,, he's really great,, I love my kids dearly,, but if I noticed all this bad things this people says about him is true,, I will never take my kids or go back there,,, But he's very excellent with training the kids and make them to be better and stop being sissy and need to be strong.. I guessed these parents really needs their kids to be babys and be weak. HUH,, I hope nobody listen to any BSs comment this negative people saying about Master Evans,, because we are proud to represent this school,, and will stay here,, Don't let those negative people and their lies stop you from going and try it out,,, you'll love it,, you will never find a good instructor will trained your child to be strong than any other studio here in the valley,, I can guarentted you try it,, don't listen to all this loosers who create so many comments here, I love my kids school,, and will support it 120%.. Peace! and please have mercy to the haters,, ugghhh

I went to this studio with high hopes. I had heard that Mr. Evans had a great workout in his martial arts class. I am a former Marine and I enjoy a good workout still even though I am out. I was offered free time to see if I would enjoy the classes, but there is no way I am going back. Mr. Evans was not only full of himself and how great he is, but he was really tasteless and unbecoming towards me. He told me that he likes when "pretty girls sign up with him." He made multiple comments about how pretty I am and how good I would look in his uniforms. This is not what I am looking for in a martial arts academy or a gym.

I recently moved to the area from Southern California. I've been a part of a successful fight team in San Diego for over several years, and in that time have been fortunate enough to train with some of the very best fighters in the world. All of whom have been friendly, polite and professional. Upon my arrival in the Rogue Valley, I immediately began coaching at a local gym, and seeking out other like minded martial artists to share information and train with. I contacted "Master" Evans with this humble request, and all I received in return was an unprofessional, disrespectful tirade containing pious boasting of his "masterful" training for 40 years and poisonous, not-so-subtle remarks pointing to the arrogant sentiment that he was entirely too skilled a teacher/martial artist/human being to even begin to entertain such a request. Over a LIFETIME of martial arts, this is the first time I have encountered such arrogance. I will not associate with such an embarrassing example of a leader in martial arts.

Evan's is an awesome instructor! His 5 tenants and living rules for children/teenagers are great for families. These rules are common sense but aren't always expressed in the everyday family, like they should be. Children these days do not know the true meaning of discipline, self control and respect. Evans brings it to their attention each day and enforces his tenants during each class. He is consistently recognizing his students who excel in school and those who assist their parents/elders at home. He rewards his advanced pupils with plaques or awards, recognizing their exceptional skills for that month. It's amazing how each student is taught to appreciate the discipline and implement these verbal techniques to their everyday life. He's not just teaching TaeKwonDo, but educating our kids for their future. Master Evans enlightens his students with a wide variety of Martial Arts; TaeKwonDo, Judo, Muay Thai, Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Self defense, Submission & Karate. Each class is different and each student will learn something new every class. Our family enjoys all his teachings and we look forward to each class! He uses tough love on his pupils and has a huge following from that approach.

You get what you pay for... His pricing is comparable to the other studios here in Medford, who train for the Junior Olympics. He brings so much to the table with his perspiring MMA drills. There are other studios who charge crumbs, but you also receive crumbs for the training...

The negative reviews must be coming from those who could not handle the Martial Arts discipline and those are the students/parents who don't deserve to be apart of this outstanding team...

It's not just about taking a class a couple days out of the week, its a lifestyle.

I've read each of the twelve negative complaints here. I find none of them valid. My kids have been attending Master Evans Martial Arts for about a year. This summer they are going to the National Junior Olympics to compete.

Last year he took a group of six or eight kids to compete and they all returned with Gold Medals except for one. The one returned with a Silver Medal because he had to fight his sister in the finals. (Black belt factory while winning gold in national competitions?)

Master Evans is a tough, but fair Master. He punishes with Pushups, Burpees, Running Laps, and the infamous 'Wall Ride' (Sounds like my old Gym Class in school). Master Evans doesn't accept complacency or mediocrity in his students. That includes in the school or out of it. Grades, disrespect to parents, bullying, not paying attention, not following instructions, or not trying your best, are all justifications for his discipline and reprimand. And yes, sometimes kids cry. It is as I would expect from a REAL Martial Arts Master at a school of oriental origin. For approximately 5 years, I lived in Vietnam, Japan, Okinawa, and Korea, while spending extended periods in numerous other countries in the orient (You should see a Japanese baseball practice! Talk about tough discipline!).

My objective opinion of the negative comments here are that they are all based in the writers perception and not in anything real or tangible.

Subjectively, I find these complaints no more than baseless insults, likely from the same person (From the language, form and content, I suspect the person who reneged on their contract and was sent to collections). Possibly one other negative commenter here that got her over-inflated ego put in its place.

Master Evans receives my highest praise. I have four Grandchildren in his class (hopefully, soon to be six). Two of those grandchildren, my wife and I are raising.

If you want your child's ego unbruised to adulthood, go someplace else. My kids have grown in their physical strength and ability, emotional strength and courage, and their character is developing into what any caring parent would hope to see, in their future adult. Their self-esteem (not ego) is healthy and their grades in school have moved steadily upward. I attribute this to the reality based assistance from Master Evans.

My two granddaughters have been going to Master Evans Martial Arts for about 9 months. They had never taken taekwondo before. My youngest has won 3 gold medals in statewide championships, and the older one has won a gold and a bronze. I have another granddaughter who goes here and she has won 2 silver medals. This is all due to their training. Master Evans consistently takes 12 - 14 students to tournaments and comes back with 12 - 14 medals. I am very impressed. The students learn to be tough, respectful, honest and to not quit even when it's hard. We go 6 days a week and I highly recommend this school. Master Evans runs a reputable martial arts school and I'm glad we found him. The kids learn so much more here than just self defense. It's very much worth the time and money spent.

I've read some of these reviews and wow! Talk about a hate campaign. Let this be a lesson to all of us, not to believe everything we hear/ read.

Master Evans is a tough instructor in his 60's. He has a lot of experience and the portfolio to back it up. He was trained in S.Korea and is a very high level black belt. You can check out the portfolio on the counter in the spectator area.

Taekwondo is a military training, so to me it seems fitting that the training would mimic a tough military structure. We appreciate that we can be there 6 days a week and at far less than many of the other dojo's in the area.

I have been taking my kids to Master Evans now for almost 2 years. I'm now taking classes and will be signing up my youngest in a few months.

We are happy to be there and plan to be there for the duration, so the contract has no effect on me other than locking in my price, which I'm happy to pay.

This is a taekwondo, point sparring, FAKE MARTIAL ARTS place. Want a Black belt? Just order it here. This dude does not do any jiujitsu! What he does is pretty fake, not effective, and really expensive. We went there to see about his BJJ stuff, and went out laughing at what a joke this place is.

This is just a bad school to be in. Bad atmosphere, bad energy. I went here for a while and nothing, especially my bank account, benefited from my attendance. I hold a nursing degree (which is relative to my comments because......) and the "Master" here says he has more medical education than I because of his 40 years in the Martial Arts Biz. I also hold numerous Black belts, none of which are recognized by him or his affiliation hence, a total disregard for my experiences. I continually felt cast aside and disregarded and even laughed at because I did not agree to what was being said and taught, or questioned a process because I had different training. No big deal really, but it is disrespectful and, in my opinion, bad. I discontinued my attendance due to the way not only I was being treated, but also he other Students treatment here. There is something very wrong with Mr. Evans and the way he teaches Taekwondo. I hope hat you find this a helpful review and avoid his dojang. There are multiple schools in the Rogue Valley that promote a much more positive learning environment.

While viewing a local tournament in the Rogue Valley (Oregon), I noticed "Master" Evans. The way this man treats his young students is despicable! He yells at them, even if they are performing well. I watched him make a young lady cry because she missed a kick that he yelled for her to execute against her opponent. That cost her a point, and Evans was relentless in his berating of her, even though she appeared to be doing her best. Would that have been my daughter, I would have had quite a "conversation" with that guy. Why people go to this school is beyond me.

We bought out of our contract just after a few months. This wasn't a man we wanted as a role model in our sons lives. He made comments that made me uncomfortable and stared at the girls inappropriately. He also disciplined students in humiliating ways for things like poor grades.

If you want a school and a master instructor that lacks the tenants of taekwondo ,and a master instructor that will publicly humiliate his students by calling them a retard,or bubble gum brain than this is the perfect school for you . Not only will he humiliate his students but talk about family financial matters to other families. He disrespects his wife while gawking at other students in his women's fitness class . Master evans martial arts is a school with basic taekwondo skills, if you want advanced training or competitive training you better run as fast as you can and get out of there before you get locked in a contract which he will then sue you for once you find out the school is not what you thought it to be. This is not a true taekwondo school, but merely a place to work out and do some basic taekwondo kicks and punches . Don't buy into his promises as he can not keep his word .

I went to a womens fitness class he was having. The main instructor here (mr. Evans) eyeballed all the ladies in the gym and gave me a total creep vibe. Mr. Evans is really touchy-feely. It is a big place with lots of people who seem really nice. But something about Evans is wierd. I am not the only one either. A couple of my girlfriends who went there say the same thing. Watch out for this man!
