My two kids have been training at Master Yoo's Taekwondo over 5 years now. We are really enjoying our experience at Master Yoo's. All masters are from Korea and I am very impressed by their skills and teaching methods. It is my pleasure to watch my kids growing with Taekwondo and developing their characters, especially their leadership. There are so many black belt teenagers who train and work at Master Yoo's and they are good role models to younger kiddos. I hope my kids become good leaders someday and Master Yoo's school is an excellent Dojo where I meet lots of good families. I feel lucky that Master Yoo's school is in our area and I am thankful for what Master Yoo does for our community and local schools!

They are all about the contract, making money and hidden fees. They also overwork most full time employees, paying them a salary (so as to not have to pay overtime) and do not compensate for 50 to 58 hour work weeks. If you are interested in true TKD training and instruction into sparring, this is not the place for you. While the TKD training is truly Kukkiwon certified, "World Class" is a brand name and their program is designed to extract top dollar from the students/parents, all while under the guise of passion and care for the students.
Everything read here about the contracts are true. Even to the point of some families quitting due to the child losing interest or hardship. They are not let out of the contract. For a 3 year black belt contract at 159. 00 dollars a month, just under 6000. 00, that can really hurt. Especially if you are no longer training.
Bottom line, there are other, cheaper programs, that will train you up just as well, if not better.

Both of my children have been attending classes here for the better part of a year now. While these classes are by no means inexpensive, neither are other sports! There have been additional costs so far such as belt testing and equipment, which weren't initially disclosed to us, but to be fair, we didn't ask that question when signing up.
Our family has come to LOVE our experience at Master Yoo's. We attend the Fishers location and we cannot say enough good things about it. The instructors are high energy, fun and have high expectations. The masters always let us know if the kids should be practicing something specific at home. It is, after all, a sport! So, to really achieve success, some practice at home can be expected!
We have noticed marked improvement in confidence and attitude with our kids. They enjoy classes, where they practice first as a large group, then in smaller groups by ability and belt type. Although classes are large, they have student leaders helping all over the place.
Our time with Master Yoo's has been fantastic and we look forwards to our family's future with this school!

My son joined Master Yoo's almost two years ago and we can not say enough about how wonderful this program is. Not only have we noticed an improvement at home, but his teachers in his school have all commented on how well behaved and focused he has become since joining the program. I love that not only is he participating in a fun sport, but also a sport that helps him on and off the mat. It is worth every penny!!! The classes are challenging, but the Master's make it fun!! You can definitely tell that they care about every one of their students. Last year during the Mother's Day event I tried a class as well and became a member as well. It is the best work-out I have ever tried. I not only feel more healthy and physically fit, but also more confident which at my age is huge!! I feel so blessed that we have found Master Yoo's!!

Though the instructors are qualified enough and the rating is so far good I would not recommend Master Yoo's. They don't really care about your age. They care about your belt. So are you are 6 and you are a red belt. They don't care about your age and will push you as hard as a red belt. They will make you spend years to get a black belt using months of your precious time and break it out to you that when you get a black belt you have only finish the elementary level witch usually convinces you to continue. They also yell a lot at you and give less than a minute breaks. They also increase the prices of seminars and are usually only nice to low belts and adults.

I am glad that I signed up my two kids at Master Yoo's Tae Kwon Do. Master Yoo and his staff are very friendly and professional. They seem to really care about their students and families. My kids want to go to classes everyday and they started showing more focus and respect. The classes are fun and very educational. I am also very impressed that Master Yoo is doing a lot of great things for the community and local schools. I feel lucky there is such a wonderful martial arts school in our community.

They dont tell you this and rush you to sign the contract stating there is nothing to worry about. Red flag!! If you sign a 3 year contract they will take a loan out for the full amount and slap it on your credit. They ask for a blank check making you believe they wil draft from your checking account. Once you sign the contract, they take a loan out, get paid and if you have any $$$ questions they tell you to talk to the finance company. If you want to cancel the contract you either have to move at least 25 miles away or be terminally ill. BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!

They are very friendly, until you have an opinion or a question that points to them not meeting their responsibilities to the student. (And if you are female.) Any behavior on the parents part that is not submissive and received as respectful to the Master is met with anger and accusations of the parent not understanding and being "negative."
There are so many students and classes are so crowded that students fall through the cracks and aren't advanced as earned. The child may spend MONTHS going over material they already know because the instructors fail to recognize the student already completed it. Or, they are paired with another student half their size and get nothing from the training because they are fearful of hurting the small person.
Yes, they want that contract. A 3 year contract for a black belt is approximately $5000. PLUS at least another $50 for each belt test. PLUS equipment, replacement uniforms, and any additional training, competitions or seminars. THEN, if the student hasn't completed their black belt at the end of those 3 years you get to pay month-to month…another $130/ month.
When your child completes all the belt advancements for a black belt they must then complete several months of review, then test in parts, called "maintenance testing" and attend multiple seminars (all with additional fees). So, plan on at least another 9 months of monthly fees even after completing all belt advancements (and on top of the 3 year contract). This is all at their training leisure, of course, as there is no incentive for them to complete black belt rank advancements, since they will continue to charge monthly for instruction for as long as they can.
THEN, they will tell you they are not a black belt factory.

When it came time to discuss the prices I went into a small office with one of the managers. She tried to get me to sign up for a 3 yr contract, but I ended up talking her down to 1 yr for each of my kids. They were pretty busy, and it was a long contract, so instead of reading it carefully (I know I should have) I told her I'd been burned before by not getting things in writing and I wanted to know what would happen if I needed to cancel our subscription. She told me that I didn't need to worry (should have been a red flag I suppose) and that they were willing to work with people if anything happened, like if I lost my job or if we moved away. She deliberately failed to mention that those were the ONLY ways to get out of the contract. She very much tried to make it sound like they would be ever so flexible.
Well, that Satuday we came back for their first lesson. The place was so packed there was standing room only, and hardly enough of that to breathe. My kids have been lost in a sea of oversized classes ever since, and hate going. I have tried to talk to the staff/owners about finding ways to get my kids to learn more and be more excited about going, and their response was to rush them to the next level, without their having really earned it, the hope being that they'd be excited that they got new belts? Well, they still hate it because it's crowded and loud and no one has time to pay any attention to whether they're doing the moves correctly.
Nevertheless, I had been finding ways to get them to attend. I encouraged them to stick to it so they could become "ninja masters" and so on (I realize that's ignorant, but they're 4 and 6- we're trying to have fun.) Then my husband got a new job. We have plenty of money, but ZERO time to spend doing this now.
I have no legal recourse, because it was a verbal misrepresentation, but I was lied to nonetheless and I am very unhappy about it.
In case you're wondering how much money we stand to lose: $2700. And that's not including the money we've already spent here (about $1200,) that's just for the next 9 months. It's $150-ish for two 30-45 min. sessions per week/month.

My son began in the Little Tigers class last fall. I feel it has helped with his discipline, self-esteem, and confidence. There are ample instructors for each class, the atmosphere is positive and supportive, and I have always felt that the instructors genuinely like and care about all of the kids there. When he was in soccer, my son would often complain and try to get out of having to go. This has never once been the case at Master Yoo's--in fact, he asks to go as much as possible. He consistently has stated that he would like to continue on in regular classes after graduating from the Little Tigers program.

With respect to the previous poster, belt testing is an honorary ceremony. During practice, the tip system ensures that each student is performing poomse, self defense, one-step sparring and drills with their instructors. When all tips are received, one is eligible to attend and perform at the belt ceremony. There is no failing because they have already "passed" in class. Not all students have the same ability. Some kids are medicated, some have mental and physical challenges. The instructors know when they are working to the best of their ability. Making a profit to continue business does not make a McDojang. Weigh out the level of instruction and available equipment with what you pay. McDojangs are run by dudes who just got their black belt a few years ago and feel qualified to open a shop. ANY of the World Class franchise Master's are more than well qualified and receive continual training. Long story short, you get what you pay for.

Master Yoo's World Class Tae Kwon Do Overall Review

Master Yoo's is a school that is more interested in making money than teaching martial arts. There are many associated fees that you don't typically find out until the last minute, such as belt tests, equipment costs, and long-term contracts associated with obtaining your black belt. They do not disclose any up-front pricing because most likely costs are different for different people. It is not standard pricing. If you ask for a break down in the costs for a certain event, they will avoid you. In addition, they will state that you can break the contract if you want, but when it comes time, they are uncooperative. They have a bait and switch program, which will initially allow you to try their facility for a short period of time for free or for a monthly basis, then require that you sign a preferably 3 year contract in order to advance in belt – In essence a McDojong. In addition, there is preferable treatment to certain children in their school. While one student can do no wrong, another can do no right. They clearly have their favorites! - Not based on ability or attitude but whether they like you or not. This school does not encourage students to earn their ranks, but instead gives belts away during belt promotions. There have been many occasions during belt promotions that the students’ certificates were preprinted and their new belts were already ready for them minutes after testing. Since the school opened, there has never been a student that did not pass during belt promotion, even though, they may have not been ready to move on. If your child decides to participate in their “Leadership Program”….beware! They will require those students to work for no money if they are underage. For those, who are older, they may pay those students; however, if they are unable to work a few times, they will become abrasive to that student behind your back and unless your child tells you, you will have no idea what is happening…. Please read this before joining.
Master Yoo's Tae Kwon Do staff is amazing. When my daughter was having some confidence issues, the masters and managers always gave her extra help and encouraged her to participate in many different events to boost her self-confidence. Now, she raises her hand to demonstrate in her class and is looking forward to the tournament. I appreciate all of Master Yoo's staff for their patience and caring for my daughter.
