We study a style of Japanese Martial arts called Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho under the guidance of James Williams Sensei. James Williams Sensei's love of Samurai Martial Traditions came with his study of the Yanagi ryu of the Yoshida han under Don Angier Sensei and the martial traditions of the Kuroda han as taught by Kuroda Tetsuzan Sensei. Williams Sensei also studied Daito ryu Roppokai with Okamoto Seigo sensei. Williams Sensei also teaches Close Quarters Combat to police and military both foreign and domestic. Williams Sensei is certified as an instructor of Systema, an Ancient Russian Martial Art taught by Mikhail Ryabko and Vladimir Vasiliev. Williams Sensei teaches Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho in Encinitas California. Williams Sensei comes to Ames once a year to teach a two day seminar.
Our curriculum consists of:
Aiki jujutsu (http://namiryu.com/about/aiki-jujutsu/)
Iai jutsu (http://namiryu.com/about/iai-jutsu), and
Ken jutsu (http://namiryu.com/about/kenjitsu/)
We train in the Samurai arts, and unlike many other schools we start teaching the sword as soon as you get on the mat as well as rolling and falling in order to stay safe. However, to use a live blade in the dojo one needs at least a year of experience and the say so from our Sensei.
