My son, who is almost 10, started with Martial Arts America when he was 4. He's been through their Tigers, BBC 1, and BBC 2 programs. He got his first degree black belt this spring. His confidence, pride, self control, discipline, perseverance -- they have all blossomed, thanks in great part to the MAA program. Most recently, he was pretty daunted by the black belt requirements -- but the support he got from the instructors and his fellow students allowed him to push through, and the joy he felt when he got his black belt is something I will never ever forget!!Ms. Hespen, the head instructor at the San Ramon school, is absolutely amazing. She is just the right combination of firm yet understanding, and she always notices when a kid is feeling a little lost or unsure. Mr. Ballecer, from the Livermore school, is also incredible -- he takes the time to get to know all the kids, even from other schools, and finds time at tournaments or workshops or workouts to give just the right words of encouragement. In addition to a fabulous teaching staff, I also love two other main aspects. First, the values that are taught at the school (the tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, indomitable spirit, and victory) match my own values, and it was terrific to have my son learn about them and see them in action outside our home. Next, I love how flexible the schedules are -- you can find a class any day of the week at a variety of times, so you can make MAA work with any other activities your kids are in. I can't speak highly enough of the program. It's just first-rate.

My child has learned to be more respectful and is eager to do good deeds. I have seen my daughter grow more confident and assertive after having attended martial arts classes. The instructors teach kid appropriate material in class and make it fun while learning important skills.

My son Grady started about 2 months ago. He is absolutely in love with the Saturday morning instructors. They move fast paced and keep it so fun for him that he rarely loses focus, which is hard for a 4 year old. Even on the days that he is tired and doesn't get a nap he leaves your school a much happier, well behaved little man. He even sleeps through the night after a lesson at karate. In a very short time he has learned how to utilize his over-whelming amount of energy in an extremely positive way with this program. Thanks Ms. Flynn & entire staff!

Great confidence booster, very motivated to do well for herself and her instructors. self control has increased. We love the positive feedback the instructors give. They teach respect by modeling respectful behavior towards their students. They are fun while teaching important life skills.

One of the great things my son learned by doing martial art is perseverance. Through the process of advancing his belt level one by one and learning different forms at every belt level, he is learning a very important value of life. They teach kids at their interest level. They make things fun for kids.

I see her use her words more often when she doesn't like something, I see her trying new things and not giving up right away when she's having a hard time with something. LOVE the program! The class are run well, with a great combination of athleticism and mental, skills. The instructors are kid-friendly, yet firm with the kids, just perfect!

We were looking for an activity after school, one that also taught respect and self control. My son has shown more respect at home and school, and has become more confident overall. My son loves coming to class and really looks forward to earning that next belt. He loves to practice at home and show family members his new techniques.

Mrs Flynn is simple #1 instructor. She is highly respected by students and parents. She teaches not only martial arts forms and other technicalities but also how to be a good human being and how to respect and stand up against bullies. Both my kids have been going to this school since they were 5 years (so been coming here for about 5+ years now) and we know we made the right decision. The other thing we like is this school is like a family, there are lot of events and seminars that we can all attend as a family. Both the kids participate in tournaments and look forward to winning medals! It has definitely built their confidence level. I would highly recommend this school and rightly deserve the 5 star rating.

Just the other day Abriana was telling me that at school a little girl was pulling on her and trying to bully her into playing with her. Abriana proudly told me "I used my karate voice and told her I don't like that, please stop". She was extremely proud of herself and I was extremely proud of her and grateful for this program. The girls like the challenge and the sense of accomplishment they get when they earn a new belt or master a new skill.

Instructors are very good with kids balancing right amount of instruction, discipline with fun and humor. Entertaining for parents watching too.
