Kumayama Dojo
The instruction is structured and easy to learn. Emphasis is placed upon body structure and the physiological principles of natural body movement to affect evasive or interceptive movement and techniques. As the student progresses and becomes more fluid and proficient, he/she learns how to defend from any body position and how to handle different types of threats and attacks.
Classes available for ages 4 & up.

No nonsense, ethical and moral self defense training.
Our mission is to teach ethical self defense through Japanese martial arts incorporating our personal ethical values and a strong moral code. We teach self defense within the scope of the self defense statutes of Alabama state law; Lead instructors are patient and experienced.

The following Martial Arts Styles are offered at Kumayama Dojo:

Programs & Class Schedule
Judo (ages 4 & up):
Mondays 5-6 pm
Thursdays 5-6 pm
The kids learn movements based in gross motor skills, aggressive disengagement and passive restraint. The techniques are based upon various styles, most heavily Judo and Aikido, and ethical virtues are paramount to the instruction.
Aikido (ages 14 & up):
Mondays 6-9 pm
Wednesdays 6-9 pm
Fridays 6-8 pm
Based upon the teachings of "O-Sensei" Morihei Ueshiba, Professor Kenji Tomiki (Shodokan Aikido), Karl Geis (Fugakukai International Association) and Harry Wright (Goraiko Dojo), the instruction is structured and easy to learn. Emphasis is placed upon body structure and the physiological principles of natural body movement to affect evasive movement and defensive techniques.
