Programs & Class Schedule
Juniors (ages 5-9years old)
Thursdays 5-6pm
Sundays 12-1pm
The juniors' program is designed to teach the basic skills of judo to our youngest members. We focus a lot on games that teach judo skills which will eventually translate into judo techniques. Emphasis is placed on rolling, falling, cartwheels and other strength and co-ordination exercises. We will explore a few basic throws and pins. At this age, we do not teach submissions or chokes.
Seniors (ages 10+)
Thursdays 6-7:30pm
Sundays 1-2:30pm
The Seniors' program teaches Olympic-style judo and basic self-defense skills to our older students. We begin each class with a warm-up, then teach/review falling and rolling before we begin throwing. Ground techniques such as chokes, armbars and pins are also taught. During the last half-hour of the class, our experienced judokas can engage in randori (light sparring) to try their techniques with their partners. Our judo program builds confidence, humbleness, discipline and respect.
Judo is a year-round sport and many competitions throughout the midwest occur. It is not mandatory to compete, but highly encouraged. We also bring in high-caliber judokas for clinics or just to workout. Judo is a great way to get in shape and build life long friendships.
