My son & my niece have had a great experience here. My son is very shy & they have done a very good job at making him feel comfortable

My daughter started 3 years ago. If you would have asked her, she would have started at age 4. The focus on not only what happens at KMA, bur what also happens at school and home is priceless. I never thought that a 8/9 year old could have a passion, but she does. She understands that she may not be the best at everything, but that she needs to be the best that she can be. She has fun. Stays in shape and wants more.

If you ask her she will be studying in Korea. She will have a multiple degree Black Belt. She will learn Korean. She has nothing that she does not think that she can do.

Just recently we have discovered that reading is difficult for her. This just wants to make her push harder. She has her down days, but the support of her peers, Instructors and her Master Circle, She just wants it more.

She is your typical 9 year old now, but the fact that this is what she wants and has wanted this for more than 3 years really shows not only her drive, but the integrity of everyone involved.

The Koguryo Martial Art Academy combines a well rounded focus on martial arts with life lessons and application of the teachings into the real world. It is a family oriented school with a lot of tenured students that truly enjoy what they do. It encourages students to do well outside the school as well as inside. It is not based on flashy moves or conditioning for competitions. Even after training for 6.5yrs and earning a 2nd degree blackbelt in Moo Duk Kwon Tang Soo Do, I found this school to be even a greater challenge and offer a significantly more comprehensive approach to training and application. The school offers instruction on Koguryo Tang Soo Do, Kum Moo Kwon Hapkido and Soo Ho Ji Moo. I would recommend this school to anyone, of any experience level, age, or physical ability. I have previously trained in two other systems. KMA incorporates all the very best aspects of traditional martial arts while keeping the application of techniques alive and relevant. The instructors are top notch and very good at patiently coaxing the best performance from students. The youth program is a particular strength encouraging character development and discipline in the children.

MY CHILDREN ARE REALLY ENJOYING THIS EXPERIENCE.

Master Circle is a wonderful instructor and has a great way with kids. There is a good balance of fun activities and serious instruction. That said, the children do earn their belts, they are not given away easily. This gives students a very strong feeling of accomplishment as they pass from one level to the next. The tuition is comparable or lower than other dojos in the area. I like that you don't commit to a specific day and time, rather, you can bring your child as often as you'd like whenever a class at their level is offered, which is helpful for busy families. Koguryo also hosts parties and activities to celebrate almost every holiday, which my son enjoys. We've had experience with the birthday parties, too, and they are lots of fun! I really can't say enough good things about Koguryo!

Koguryo Martial Arts is a fantastic dojang with knowledgable, engaging instructors and a very warm sense of community amongst the students. Instruction covers Tang Soo Do, Hap Ki Do a full range of Okinawan weapons and traditional Korean arts not found in any other schools in the US. The headmaster is amazingly knowledgable and utilizes a very broad range of instructing techniques. The assistant instructors and senior students lead by example setting the culture for the gym and clearly communicating the expectations for newer students. You will feel very welcome here and will learn a great deal.
