I have been a student at this school for the last 8+ years. After reading the last two reviews, I felt compelled to respond. More than likely, I trained with and helped teach both of you. No one gets along with everyone. And personalities do clash at times.

Some people may even seem rude or arrogant to you, when others see them as focused, and knowledgeable. Our Sensei is there to HELP you open your mind. Not do it for you. No school worth the time or money is going to teach you “any real fighting”

without learning the basics first. Like how to roll on the ground, without getting hurt.

We can do that and most people even have fun while doing it. As for crossing your arms in class. It shows disrespect. Don’t believe me? Go to Japan and try doing it in a dojo there. .. Just like in Japan, this dojo is a place of honor and respect. As for a waste of time. .. Only when you put no effort into it, is this school a waste of your time. If you quit in response to things getting tough, or hearing something you don’t like, You will only get better at quitting, nothing else. Even if its hard to hear. you will get honesty in this dojo. In 2017, I believe the list of Black Belts this dojo has produced may increase by one more. And it will have been a 9 year journey for me to get here. Not any easy trip, but I'm enjoying the ride. and look forward to more. I have learned much about Ninpo, and even more about myself. Remember, Ninpo is not just about the physical art. The kanji “NIn” is made up of two symbols. “Blade” over “Heart”. There is reason for it. You can learn from everyone. But, by going to see this dojo and speaking to Sensei yourself, you will learn a great deal more about it than you can from reading other peoples opinions. I gain nothing by praising this dojo or my Sensei

This was written with an honest, although sad heart. Note. It is no longer in Federal Way (But a carpool is available from there) Current dojo number 253-862-7160

I attended a class and found the "SENSEI" To be a very rude person with a (Better then you) complex. The instructor even went as far to say that my first art, Krav Maga , ripped off the ninjas fighting style. I was not really instructed on any real fighting Just told I couldn't stand in a relaxed posture or cross my arms in class. The space was cramped. This place was out of touch with the real world. All I did was roll on the floor the entire time. Waste of time!

I was first introduced to Sensei Corder by a mutual friend and student of his in 1994 after taking several years off from training in other martial arts. I was immediately impressed with the depth and quality of the curriculum, and the atmosphere which he cultivates in his Dojo. I have found it to be the perfect balance between maintaining traditional Japanese customs, and a contemporary and positive place where I have had the privilege to train, learn, and interact with other students of all ages and backgrounds who share a passion for the martial arts.

This is not a weekend self-defense course. Nor is it about donning a black ski-mask and creeping through the shadows. This Dojo goes beyond the Hollywood stereotypes and introduces the pupil to the true essence of Ninpo, and begins to build a foundation of skills and knowledge that will continuously be built upon and refined over the course of a lifetime. It is an art that is grounded and based upon practical, realistic and efficient techniques that will allow you to defend yourself and those you care about in the real world where courtesy and etiquette are forgotten concepts.

I would sincerely encourage anyone who is interested in learning or simply learning about traditional Japanese martial arts to visit the Kogen Ninpo Dojo, meet Sensei Corder, and experience firsthand what he, and his school has to offer.

A place to grow

I have 2 petite, shy daughters. In the few months that they have been going to the school, they have developed a better sense of self and how much they can accomplish. Their confidence has improved and they look forward to going to their next lesson. Sensei Corder makes learning fun and light-hearted. Senpai Kevin relates to the students well. Sensei's wife Lisa makes you feel welcome and Brittany, who assists in the children's classes, is an awesome example to my girls. Last but not least as a parent, the fact that they teach not only the art but the language and culture makes me feel like it's an enrichment to my girls.

Oh! And the fees are affordable!

I have trained off and on at different Dojo's over the years.

But this by far, has been the best I've been at.

When I first walked into this school,

the positive energy I felt was very welcoming.

A strong feel of being "...home".

The only sad thing is...

Nobody can live long enough, to learn all that Sensei Corder and this school has to offer.

Not just the 900 year old art of Ninpo and traditional weapons...

But about life as well.

This is school is a family.

Bring an open mind, heart, and spirit.

A note book would be a good idea too.

Most of all, be ready to have some FUN.

Bring your notebook and a pen because there is a trove of information to be learned. Not only does the art cover extensively hand to hand self defense but it also delves deep into at least 7 different weapon types from what I've counted so far not to mention traditional eastern medicine!

Sensei Tracy is dedicated to improving people from the inside out through the martial arts itself. His students of all ages he treats as family and is always willing to lend a listening ear or a helping hand inside or outside the dojo.

I would have to say in the time that I have been a student at the Kogen Nimp Dojo I have always enjoyed myself, Everyone is always in a great mood and ready to learn new techniques that we would actually be able to use in real life situations. I have tryed other forms of martial arts and was not impressed, most of the time it's the same thing over and over never learning anything new. Training at the Kogen Nimpo Dojo Your always learning new Things that will be useful in the real world. You NEVER go away empty handed.

I was born with a Lung disease called Cystic Fibroses, Since I have started my training at the Kogen Nimpo Dojo my health has improved as well as my energy level. I am aloud to go at my own speed and take a rest when I need to. Sensie is very understanding and pushes us to our limit.
