Mother of Autistic Son

Well I hate to have to come back and change my review, but things have changed. The owner/instructor only has time for his World Team students! He only yells at the other students, especially the boys and never seems to have time for them. He has young, very young students warming up and teaching the classes and seems to be rushing students through to get their belts. I am not sure if that is to make money, or why but some kids dont know what they are supposed to be doing and seem lost all the time. I just wish I had payed closer attention. I would not take my child or reccommend this school. It it good at first because he wants to make an impression, then falls apart!

My son is autistic and the owner and instructor's had no problem taking him in and teaching him like everyone else in the class. They don't treat him differently or give him special treatment but I do see them pull him aside and work with him like many other students when he is struggling with a particular form or self defense move. I love this school and what it stands for and it has helped my middle school student so much. Thank you KTKK for everything you have done!

We build Character?

A few years ago this school had a wonderful Master instructor who took great efforts to make sure every student was learning and growing. I am not sure where she went but it is a great loss to the community.

I understand that Master Peavey is the owner again, and is teaching but this guy is a great business man and a total flake as a Martial Artist/instructor. This guy is more focusing on a handful of physically gifted children, then teaching Martial Arts and developing what he uses in his ad "We build Character", maybe it should say "if your not physically gifted or look pretty don't waste my time".

He calls himself a Master but he never does anything but talk about how great his world team is. I wanted to return to training but it seems he can't keep an adult in his program, it could be do to children teaching his classes for him. I have to wonder if child services knows this guy is using children for labor? I attended a test for my sons friend who was testing, and I was shocked to see children grading their peers, these children weren't even black belts!

We Build Character not anymore...well I am still looking for a real school with an instructor who holds firmly to what Martial Arts is suppose to be about. Parents if your child is attending this school wake up and really listen to what this nut is really doing...taking your money and hurting your child's dream of making it to black belt.

I have not studied with Master Peavey. Instead, I have met him, and his students, for several years at tournaments. I don't know who does, or does not, teach Master Peavey's classes. I know, and told several of his students this yesterday, that I do *NOT* look forward to the day my students are advanced enough to face his in competition. I judged several of his Black Belt students' forms competition. I would rate them, notice I didn't say one, THEM as EXCELLENT! From beautiful wushu forms, to strong traditional hard style kata, to very good weapons forms, I was impressed all around. I was also VERY impressed with his students' attitudes, sportsmanship, and professionalism. I had an engaging conversation with a young woman I believe is one of the other instructors at his school. This was not a child, but a grown woman. The bottom line for me is, any school will have ex-students who feel negatively toward it. I have 37+ yrs in a wide variety of martial arts. If I lived in that area, I would want my children training at his school. My opinion.

Children teaching children and no respect for others

Master Peavey is a great business man but a poor martial artist. He leaves children to teach most of the classes these days, when asked why children are teaching Master Peavey would reply that it is a leadership requirement (makes me think of free labor). He use to have another instructor (who was awesome, knowledgeable, and cared for each students growth in and out of karate and would trained with the students often ) but he dump her while she was out of town serving our country. My wife and I pulled both of our boys from this program, and encourage others to do the same. Anyone who would let parents and students know that an instructor was being release before the individual was informed; well this is a lesson I do not want my sons to learn from Master Peavey just because he feels he can throw people away or disregard a persons privacy one has to wonder what this guy is really about..it sure is not Martial Arts!

My boys told me that when Master Peavey wanted them to support his world team fund raisers, they where made to feel bad if they did not help out.. this upsets me greatly, and I wonder why any adult feels they can manipulate adults through their children.

One more thing; If a student did not attend his tournaments twice a year, the student could not test for a higher belt. But if you where on his ""World Team"" they would be promoted without even knowing their forms or the requirements of the test would be changed for the World Team Member.

Master Peavey says he knows and teaches all these styles, if you really look into it you will walk away with the understanding that his students teach the skills and he takes all the credit.

I did martial Arts for most of my early adult life and have never seen anything like this school. I am glad we pulled away from this school when we did. Take care and don't let the sell pitch blind you when seeking a martial arts school for your kids.

Jose SR.

Many classes taught by mid level students, Switched to a different school

The facility is impressive by looks but had average instruction at best. This school is more forms based and younger students get stuck doing the same things every day. We stuck with this school for about 2 years then it was time to move on. Tournament based, not suggested for self defense. There are better schools out there with better instruction that will keep your students attention and more fun.

Good Luck in your decision - preview classes from different schools. Good schools will let you try the classes for a period of time. But try more than one school if you have not trained before. Different schools may be better for different kids. So know your child and educate yourself.
