Modern Combative & Traditional Weapons Training

Goshindo is an internationally recognized Japanese school of martial arts that combines the traditional weapon arts of Toyama-ryu (kata based training), Batto-do (sword drawing), and Tameshigiri (cutting practice) with the modern combative training of Sport Kenjutsu (Chanbara). This allows the students to learn the skill and techniques of the ancient Samurai in less time than the traditional methods while maintaining a high degree of safety and fun.

Students begin training with a simple one-handed foam weapon called the Kodachi. This weapon simulates the short sword (wakazashi) of Japan. The technique also simulates the use of the batton or Tonbo of Okinawa, and translates well into other stick fighting arts. Instruction in this weapon gives the students a solid foundation in the basic skills of defense and attack necessary to progress to the other weapons in the system. In addition, students will learn the mental discipline to focus, evaluate and plan a strategy for overcoming any obstacle.

Goshindo Sport Kenjutsu classes are taught by John and Vicki Daniel. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel are both certified Goshindo Sport Kenjutsu instructors, who trained under 7th degree Goshindo instructor Shihan Dana Abbott.
