I am the mom that is constantly driving my kids to the many different activities they are involved in. I like to keep the kids busy. My youngest son (who happens to be very shy) doesn’t seem to enjoy team sports so we decided to enroll him at Joslin’s Martial Arts Center in Auburn. All I can say is WOW what an unbelievable transformation my son has experienced. The instructors have a way of nurturing the student with kindness and positive feedback and it works! He has gone from being painfully shy to the student that is always ready to demonstrate his karate moves in front of the whole class. This attribute has carried over to his schoolwork too. His teacher says he is contributing much more in her classroom and is now raising his hand to answer questions. I am proud of my son for his effort. I love Joslin’s for all they do. Thank You Master Joslin and all the wonderful instuctors at Joslin’s Martial Arts

They should be arrested!
Having been a student who came to this dojo unfocused in my early 20's, stuggling with mismanaged ADD and a slough of other behavioral issues, the focus, principles of self discipline and grounding myself in Kata and breath work, were only some of the ways Isshin-Ryu helped me refine my will and physical, mental and emotional well-being. The lower body basics, upper body basics, bag work, sparring and gradual progression of these foundation skills built my confidence for kata work and feeling more open to the deeper teachings and allowing for the teachers to provide more subtleties of Kata work and hidden self defenses. Isshin-Ryu history and it's principles gradually wore down my arrogance, rooted in my low self esteem and sharpened my focus and allowed me to honor the need to respect myself, others and the art. Later, I was able to generalize these lessons to others in my life and in my endeavors. In the end, I learned a profound lesson, that my dojo can be anywhere, using these principles and eventually did find my commitments lied elsewhere and relunctantly left and returned several times, until my focus became unified in my career, serving others using the principles of Isshin Ryu and the Book of Five Rings. A deep bow of respect for this lineage, this art and it's instructors/sensei's and in particular this lineage itself, made strong by those who form one of many lines directly from the Grandmaster himself, Tatsuo Shimabuku. A deep bow of respect for each of my teachers, from the Isshin-Ryu Karate Mountain Club, to the East West Karate schools in Auburn and Roseville. One final Kiii-aaaiii (spirit yell)!
