My name is John Godwin, head instructor of our martial arts school. For thirty plus years, we've dedicated our lives to bringing the physical - and mental - benefits of martial arts to our community. All of our schools offer quality instruction for all ages and abilities looking to benefit from Martial Arts instruction. The Korean Martial Arts Institute offers various classes and programs for all ages. Applicants can sign up for one of our Kids Martial Arts program, Adult Martial Arts program, Kickboxing program, Karate Birthday Parties, or Self Defense seminars. Mr. Geoffrey Setyanto
Mr. Setyanto is the chief instructor of our Newark location. As a graduate of our Leadership Program he has been a leader and role model. He has been training with KMAI since the year 1996 and holds a 4th Degree Black Belt in Sin Moo Hapkido and a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do. Mr. Setyanto was captain of the Godwin-Shin Creative Demo Team Leading the team to 3 Championship victories. His personal tournament victories include multiple Gold medals in the 1998, 2004, 2006, 2010, & 2012 World Championships. He has also won multiple Grand Champion’s at open and Tang Soo Do Tournaments, including the Adult Male Grand Champion at the 2009 Region 8 Championships. He was a 2008 Martial Arts Preservation Hall of Fame Inductee.
Mr. Setyanto excels in the art of Sin Moo Hapkido, as well as the Korean sword (gumdo), but he says that his favorite thing about the martial arts are the etiquette, traditions, and the honor of sharing his knowledge and skill with future Black Belt leaders.
