The absolute number #1 Martial Arts school in the tri-state area. Jim Smith is an unbelievable martial artist and instructor who has spent 40 years teaching students. Who ever says his "ego" gets in the way is meerly ignorant and blinded by jealousy. And whoever says his staff is all made up of teenagers is also ignorant. This is another style of teaching; displaying to the young black belts how to be a leader. However, his two main teenage instructors (one female and one male) are there every day and are the most mature and respectable teenagers I have ever seen. My son has been attending for a few years and I have seen a vast improvement in his social life as well as his maturaty level. Great art, great school, great teaching methods.

Jim Smith Karate is the premiere Karate school around. Its attention to detail is something that is rare. While other schools attempt to teach their version of martial arts, Jim Smith Karate goes beyond. They teach their students not only how to defend themselves but also respect, honesty, courage, confidence and more. The official instructors are there teaching the kids (and adults) every day. They are excellent well trained blackbelts who i feel genuinely care about the students. NO CHILD IS LEFT BEHIND! No belt fees, if a child is not ready to test they are not penalized! Great great great teaching staff, especially the two high ranked women!! Jim Smith himself is the best of the best. I highly recommend this dojo

He always exceeded my expectations in all of these instances.

He is, in my opinion, a pillar in the community.

My daughters have been going to JSK for a number of years now. My youngest started as a second grader. She liked it so much that, after the first year, her OLDER sister had to get in on the action. They have both benefited from the training. Obviously they have gained karate skills as they are now both teenagers and both are black belts. But they have also gained through character & discipline. Jim Smith teaches skills, but he also teaches philosophy...how to conduct yourself, how to succeed, how to evaluate your 'opponents', how to be confident, and how to do things the right way. As a parent, I'm a big fan of JSK...clean & well run facility, great team atmosphere amongst the students, quality well-trained long-time staff, and a consistent lead from one of the top karate practitioners in the world.

Jim Smith is a great teacher but he cares more about his ego then the well being of the kids. His staff is made up of all teenagers and it's too pricey for that type of help. He loves to show off his trophies and his awards but never the kids.
