A place right out of a 80's movie.

Not a realistic martial art Kempo is stuck in the 80's. I watched a technique where a guy throws one straight punch then the instructor does a 18 move combination, I laughed and walked out. The place is old and the instructors seemed surprised that I came in. Didn't see a kids program but saw enough of the adult program to know that this school is not for me.

I Went there for about six years, and saw many people come and go. Needs to teach more of the technical side of kenpo, by the time I was 1st blackI could name almost no terminology. Older students seem to be more tougher than the newer students, probably because back then, they actually had a warm up routine. Now, it's just the same humdrum techniques, forms, and the occasional ground techniques every class. The quality of students get poorer and poorer. If you go six times a week for a class or two, you'll eventually get your black belt in 3 years, regardless of age. I was a victim of this, and looking back on my black belt test, I was pretty sloppy. I looked about green belt level.
Can't believe he bothered to promote me. I think at one point there was a butchered black belt test to finish on time.
Quality gets lower and lower, invest in a better school. Gets expensive, about 300 dollars for Dan testing.
Mr. Jim is a fantastic teacher, not only is he extremely knowledgeable and a great martial artist, he is also very passionate about what he does, and this really shows in the way he interacts with the students. If you want to learn karate, this is the place to do it.
