Fully traditional Korean Taekwondo with a Grand Master

I've been a student of Grand Master Jeun for almost 3 years. He is a direct linage to the original masters of Korean martial arts and has taught all over the world. He is extremely dedicated to his students and ensures they get the most from his training. The first 10 or so minutes is a cardio workout of basic moves. After a short break, time is spent on individual forms followed by self defense practice and then free sparring. It is a full hour workout. His black belts are themselves students, are well trained and assist with classes or extra training when needed. Sparring is light to no contact, no protection is used since a self defense situation itself allows for no protection. Testing is offered every 2 months so a student has ample time to learn new skills/form. Board breaking is performed for testing at Brown belt and above. He offers children and adult classes. If you want to learn from a true Asian martial arts master, this is the place!

Hi, I have been going to Juen's Tae Kwon Do Institute for the last 2 years and now that I am in college I am only there for the holidays. The way Master Juen teaches Tae Kwon Do is a very formal Korean style but also fun. Every class we start off with 30 minute warm up drills such as punching and kicking up and down the floor. After that we get a 5-10 minute break and for the next hour we practice forms and sparing. At the Institute we do not use sparing gear. The reason is, in a real life situation your attacker isn't going to pause and allow you to put on fighting gear. We try to train you for real world situations and unfortunately, having fighting gear on while on the streets is very unlikely. Right now I am in the Tae Kwon Do club in Iowa City and I'm not sure I like it. Because I transferred in as a black belt they were teaching me 8 forms in one week. It's ridiculous. No one can learn that many forms in one week and expect to retain anything. At Juen's Institute though, Master Juen and the rest of the class help you build the technique needed to practice Tae Kwon Do in the correct way. There you start as a white belt, and train for months before you can test for your next belt color. If you do not feel comfortable testing for your next belt, or need a little more practice, classmates, and Master Juen are glad to help you. Juen's Institute is a safe, comfortable, friendly environment and for any age persons no matter you size, or physical strength. Whether you come to train, lose weight, or try something new, you will not regret it. I love Juen's Institute of Tae Kwon Do!
