Much more than how to fight

I am in my fifth month of training in aikijutsu at Itten Dojo, and I have been continuously impressed by all aspects of the operation. The training is physically demanding to be sure (knuckle push-ups!), but the most rewarding aspect for me is the "research" behind every technique. Each class is filled with "aha!" moments as Sensei explains how the slightest change in body position shifts the advantage in my favor. That unique emphasis on understanding the mechanics of the engagement attracts and holds the interest of a certain kind of student, creating a dojo of intellectually curious people that you'll want to get to know beyond the dojo walls. The instructors have an astonishing depth of knowledge about their arts and are clearly dedicated to imparting that knowledge to their students. I highly recommend this dojo to anyone seeking a challenge that will engage the entire body, including the mind.

I found Itten Dojo quite by chance 11 years ago. A card at a sushi restaurant introduduced me to an art that has held my fascination since. The kicks and punches of the karate classes of my youth were ok, but nothing has held my interest this long. There isn't a class that I do not learn something new. If you decide to study at this dojo be prepared to be challenged intellectually as much as physically. Where else will you see student notebooks lined up along a dojo mat?!
Try this dojo at your own risk. You may, like me, become addicted to a journey of a lifetime.

I have been a member of Itten Dojo since October 2009. It has been a great experience. It is by no means easy, but if you are willing to persevere and you understand that what you get out of training depends on what you put into it, you will quickly find yourself improving at an amazing rate. Everybody at the dojo is friendly and nice, making a great environment that manages to blend together the formal Japanese culture and the more relaxed American culture into a positive learning experience. Wolfe sensei is amazingly skilled and knowledgeable and always ready to help, patiently demonstrating and explaining the technique until you understand it (even if you have a somewhat thick skull like me :) ).
Looking for a dojo? Make sure you visit this one.

I’ve had an opportunity to be taught by several instructors over my 25+ years training in the martial arts. I find Itten Dojo to be an environment where beginners and someone with experience will be challenged by solid instruction. The dojo itself it spacious and well-kept. If you’re looking for a dojo, come in to observe a class and meet the staff. You’ll be glad you did.

I have been training at the Itten Dojo for approximately 15 years, having found the dojo in 1997 while attending a local college. The quality of instruction, attitude and bearing of the students, and strong sense of camraderie drew me into practice. I consider my decision to join the dojo to be one of the best choices of my life, as it has provided me with the support of a strong and vibrant community, excellent instruction, and an opportunity to train in a fascinating and challenging martial art.

If you are seeking an art that is both physically and mentally challenging, as well as both graceful and powerful then look no further than Yamate-ryu Aikijutsu. If you want to train with top-notch instructors and a great group of dedicated students then look no further than Itten Dojo. Training here under the leadership of Wolfe Sensei is endlessly fascinating, challenging, transformative and fun. As one of the few women who pursue this particular art, I very much appreciate the way Sensei and the senior staff manage to foster a supportive, helpful and encouraging environment without ever being patronizing. I highly recommend Itten Dojo to anyone who wants to become more.

I was fortunate to be invited and experience twenty years ago ,while stationed at Misawa Japan ,to be in an aikido dojo ,yet it was only two months. My brief experience positioned me to appriecate the authentic atmosphere to this beautiful martial art, that has been provided by Wolfe Sensei ,Manning Sensei and staff in Itten Dojo ! Being a Veteran I appreciate the excellent foundation established by Loveret Sensei thru the Student hanbook ,Yamate Ryu curriculum and one of his books "The Way and the Power".Though I am one of two oldest white belts ,Itten dojo has enabled me this time the tools to understand and enjoy this journey!

As someone with no prior experience in martial arts, my time at Itten Dojo has been life-changing. Not only have I become stronger physically, I have also gained confidence that affects every area of my life. I cannot imagine training with a more knowledgeable and supportive sensei and group of people. I would recommend Itten Dojo to anyone interested in a training experience that is both physically and mentally rewarding.

This dojo is one lf the best, the instructions from Wolfe sensei and Manning sensei are truly inspiring. The insight that you receive from the collective experiences from both Wolfe and Manning sensei is amazing. Swordmanship doesn't come very easy for me because I have done Korean martial arts for about 16 years, and Japanese martial arts was very hard for me. I felt like I would never understand kenjutsu But Wolfe and Manning Sensei both helped me in the transition and now I feel very confident in my swordsmanship. The knowledge and direction you receive here is truly unbelievable and i would highly recommend this dojo to everyone.
I've been training in aikijutsu at Itten Dojo for about a year and have been continuously impressed with the level of instruction, the professional and clean dojo, the dojo members, and the richness of the martial art itself. I have trained in other martial arts since 1997 (2 styles seriously, 5 informally), and while I have had good (and bad) experiences elsewhere, Itten Dojo is simply outstanding in every regard. This isn't a place where you show up, pay your dues, and eventually someone hands you a "black belt"--this is the place where you can earn something much more valuable with your sweat and effort and with the assistance of some of the most knowledgeable and contentious martial artists I have ever encountered. To anyone considering studying a martial art or changing styles, I highly recommend making an appointment to visit Itten Dojo to see for yourself.
