Lacking some business structure, parents and students are expected to do everything for nothing in return. In other words, work for free. There is no consistency in the organization and things are constantly changing with the information you are given. And apparently, everyone must go to Canada (which requires a lot of money) in order to get an apprentice black belt. There are exceptions though. If you are Sensei's wife, you don't have to train as hard and they will make an exception so that you can get a black belt without going to Canada. This is favoritism and wrong on many levels. Everyone should be given the same opportunity. And, all of this is dictated by Tibon's karate school in Stockton.
Our daughter has progressed from white belt to currently testing for black belt with Sensei Hiers over the past 7 years. She enjoys class and we love him. He is gentle and well liked both by adults and parent. He has, on many occasions, gone out of his way to give our daughter the extra attention or support she needed. He has been a wonderful influence on her growing up years. I recommend him without reservations.
