HRKC is the best place to learn kendo. Not only does it help you improve your skills, it teaches you a lot about manners, teamwork, and discipline in ways you wouldn't have thought of before. Although it can be very tough on you at times, it is definitely worth it when you get that feeling after you win a match. HRKC has been important to me and I definitely recommend people to come attend!

I started kendo back in fifth grade and have been continuing to practice the martial art ever since. The teaching here is amazing! As a result of going to HRKC, I have won around eight medals from competitions, 4 gold and 4 bronze, and I am currently part of the Youth national team.

HRKC is a great place to learn kendo. The instructor is the best in the Hampton Roads area. It's impossible to receive better training anywhere else that teaches kendo.

Please ignore the other bad comments because they are probably people who are just those who think they're either funny to do something like this. The teacher is the best you can find anywhere and those who disagree are just those students who can't handle any kind of criticism.

We were amazed not only by the skills we saw in the young student's of HRKC, but their team work, discipline, and attitude amazed all of us, and it was a true honor to have them at our tournament. First impression counts, and we were delighted to have met these guys, and the sensei here was very humble, and took care of all his students with extra care. Highly recommended!!

Hampton Roads Kendo Club (HRKC) has provided many with an exceptional learning environment in becoming a better person in mind and in body. The style of teaching effectively creates good kenshi because it focuses not only on the foundations of kendo but also the fun of the sport. HRKC has provided a great place to learn about the art and has created a close family of friends.

Hampton Roads Kendo Club (HRKC) is simply a place of learning. You may be signing up for kendo lessons, but the instructor, the peers, and the overall environment all play a large role to whomever is enrolled. The basics are the fundamentals and foundation to becoming advanced at anything. You learn to appreciate the little things and grow not only as a kenshi, someone who does kendo, but also as a person as well. I treat the members and the instructor as a part of the family. With the same thinking, this dojo could possibly be my second home!

I love this place. The teacher here is the best you will ever find anywhere. He has been teaching for a long time and does it so well. Every time we go somewhere he is respected and we end up winning most of the medals. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. It make be rigorous at times but everything you do is beneficial and will help you improve.

Number 1 dojo in South Eastern US kendo federation! Hampton roads kendo club is the strongest team in youth group also!
Ok. So, I noticed all the hating reviews were from a single date in 2014. How can 8 different people give 1 star reviews to the same place on the same date? Answer: A TROLL just wants to destroy a place (restaurant, dojo, dog groomer, etc. ). I am 55, have taken various Martial Arts over the years and around the world and I find this dojo to be Absolutely Superb.
Kendo is NOT what you think it is; On youtube it looks like ballet. But in real life (at this dojo) you will discover that it is fencing. Everyone wants to hit someone with a stick. Ok.
But in this school you will learn how to properly hold the sword, how to stand to maintain your balance, and how to hit with enough force to kill (if this were a real sword).
Kendo is only 100 years old. But it is based on 600 years of sword-play experience.
A single Samurai could easily beat 5 Spanish pirates in 1650's Japan. It happened every day!! Come to Kendo. You will get in great shape and you will learn something phenomenal.
Thank You.
