Clearly a step above. . . One would expect the art used to defend the royal family to be superior to the those arts taught to the general population. Ryute does not disappoint in this respect. The art is truly the ultimate in self defence and the instruction is second to none. I highly recommend the Okinawan Academy of Martial Arts to practitioners of all the martial arts. It will open your eyes and broaden your horizons in understanding your own art.

This dojo offers advanced instruction in original Okinawan karate that is of the highest caliber. It is rare to find a dojo with this depth of knowledge and practice. Not only is the theory rooted in "ti", the forerunner of all Okinawan karate, daily practice demonstrates how it works. Students are expected to develop high levels of skill but do it in an atmosphere of cooperation. Weapons study and practice are based upon authentic kata developed in Okinawa and China. I highly recommend this dojo for new students or advanced students who would like to take their practice to the next level.

I never had the time to study martial arts till I retired and after visiting several dojos I picked this one. When I first started with Kyoshi Peterson he told me that he would teach me something new every time I came to class. I thought to myself ok maybe after 1 1/2 years, we'll see. It's been 4 years and I feel like I am seeing the tip of the iceberg. I have learned (and am still trying to polish up) 20 plus katas. I'm not a slow learner but the fine tuning of this style takes a long time to put into your body. He makes the learning process fun too. We all leave the dojo with smiles on our faces. After nearly 40 years in the military flying helicopters I can honestly say he is one of the most dedicated men I have ever known at what he does. He will even give you a free lesson if you are serious about learning. For me it is no longer a hobby but has turned into a lifestyle.

A great place to be if you really want an deep understanding of kata(forms)and the vast amount of applications that come from kata.Kyoshi Peterson is well versed in empty hand self defence and weapons. He continues learn and train on a daily basis.Simply put he is the best instructor, I HAVE EVER HAD!
This is a dojo that has changed the meaning of karate for me and I'm quite sure for many other individuals as well. The style is totally about (True life self Protection) it gives the practitioner the option to control an attacker very quickly without engaging in a offensive combative fight. It is extremely effective and able to be performed by anyone man or woman, frail or strong you will be able to control your attacker. Ryu Te is a life long karate style, you can continue to practice this wonderful art until your in your later years of life and i say this after many years of training in a different style with many black eyes, jammed toes, and broken ribs that will effect you later in life. The weapon training which is part of your empty hand training as well is really heads above any I have seen. When you're performing weapons as taught be Sensei Chuck you can rest assured that you have the best instructor around and you will be performing your weapons just as the old warrior class did many years ago. You won't find a better instructor, Sensei Chuck really has an extremely deep resume about karate that goes way back to many years of training with the great Taika Oyata and many others. In closing I'd like to say that the atmosphere at the dojo is very enjoyable, there are no egos and everyone is eager to help you and Sensei Chuck always makes every class a fun and learning environment.
