Gracie Scottsdale is a great place to learn the art that is Jiu-Jitsu.
1. Instruction - The head instructor is center stage, methodically showing the class all the key details and angles necessary to learn the move. During instruction the entire class is against the wall which gives every student a clear, unobstructed view of what's going on. An aspect unavailable at most other BJJ gyms.
2. Curriculum - I dare you to go to any Sport BJJ gym and ask them what their curriculum is! Gracie Scottsdale follows a simple, easy to follow, linear format that starts with the Combatives techniques and later moves to the Master Cycle. For a full explanation of the curriculum visit: https://www.gracieuniversity.com/channel.aspx
3. Price - average price when compared to other places in the area plus membership includes access to Gracie University videos, an indispensable resource.
4. Atmosphere - It's a very fun, clean, safe environment to learn in. Egos are left at door.
5. Street vs Sport - What are you fighting for? Trophies or survival? We train first and foremost for the street, not for points on a soft padded mat. I walk around more confident than I ever have knowing that I can defend myself against a bigger, stronger opponent. Thanks to Chris Bailey for keeping it real and for keeping it playful!

Black belt price blue belt instruction

Brian, why don't you ask Chris if anyone was allowed to re-do their blue belt test in the same night because they got lost during the test. I know of two different times. Also ask him if he was teaching a master cycle lesson after watching a video of the lesson the day before. Don't take my word for it.

This kind of dishonesty I do not approve of. I already elected Rorion my representative in all areas, not only because he's my oldest son, but because he is the one who is more dedicated to jiu jitsu for what jiu jitsu is and the way I like it. [...]
Lets not confuse the student with those presumptuous ones who want to become teachers, because my own sons, who were born with me and since three years old have been doing jiu jitsu, only got their certificates after practicing their teaching skill for ten years.
Now an individual comes by my academy and spends five or six months or a year, and then leaves calling himself a jiu jitsu teacher. There's no way. Because for me, the instructor skill is not the learning of the movements, its in the philosophy behind the movements. In Brazil, unfortunately, it is very difficult to find someone with the morals I expect to become an instructor at my academy. That's the problem.

Gracie Scottsdale is a great Jiu Jitsu school where you can learn real world self defense in a safe and friendly environment. There is no ego at the school and you can train daily without the risk of getting injured. This school is great for the professional person with a career and other responsibilities who can not afford to get hurt or injured in training. This is probably not the school for the young athlete who wants to be a UFC/MMA fighter or a sport jiu jitsu competitor, although that is not to say that one could not do well in those arenas with the training they receive at Gracie Scottsdale. The instructor, Chris Bailey, is very friendly, and teaches the prescribed curriculum from the Gracie Academy. That combined with the access to Gracie University makes it very easy to learn this system. It is a great school which makes training fun and sustainable over the long term.

I’ve been training at this school since Dec 2011 with no prior martial arts experience. I recently passed my Blue Belt test with a 99% and I can assure you that I took my test 1 time… In fact I’ve witnessed several Blue Belt tests in the time I’ve been training at this school and I have yet to see anyone “redo their test”. The average Blue Belt test scores that I see coming from this school are above 90%. This is the result of the superior teaching skills of Instructor Chris Bailey who has been teaching martial arts for over 30 years. Chris has a ton of energy and keeps your interest cracking a joke here and there… He keeps Jiu Jitsu fun and when it’s fun you learn much easier and faster. In addition to that there is a family atmosphere at this school, when I walk through the door I am greeted by Chris with a “Brian welcome home”. There is no ego here and the other students have become my brothers. As a Blue Belt I continue to learn from Chris every day, each time we roll he catches me in a submission about 10 times ( without injury ) and each time I learn something. I can honestly say that if I were to be attacked by a bigger, faster, stronger opponent in the street right now, I would feel sorry for them. I drive about 45 minutes one way 4-5 days a week to train at this school even though there is a Jiu-Jitsu school not 5 minutes away from my house, and there are a few students that drive clear from Casa Grande to Scottsdale every week. Anyways you don’t have to take my word for it, you can simply come down and watch a session and experience it for yourself, If you’re still interested after that there is a 10 day free trial to see if it works for you no strings attached. Come join the family. See you on the mat!

I have been training at this academy for quite some time now and love the instruction! Gracie Jiu Jitsu is for self defense. Sometimes I think people get sport jiu jitsu mixed up with what we do at this academy. We do not train for jiu jitsu competitions, we train for real life street fights. We don't worry about points or time limits because in reality we don't get to chose who we fight or how long we fight for! Our instructor is a third degree black belt in hwarangdo and is no stranger to martial arts. We also have the bully proof program for the kids which teaches them how to deal with bullies! This academy is pure Gracie Jiu jItsu, we learn straight from the source! if you need more information. Please go to www.gracieacademy.com. Please check us out you won't regret it!!

The instructor is only a blue belt that as been learning primarily through videos. You ask questions but you only get blue belt answers and class ends early a lot. A lot of time is wasted on comedy. The blue belt test is a joke because the instructor lets you take it as man times as you want that same night until you pass it. I wish I could all kinds of re-do's in an actual fight. If the instructor doesn't do his homework, which is watching a video before the class, then there is no lesson and you get a free day of sparring. Also as a white belt I tapped the instructor while not being tapped by the instructor at all.
When you first start here they make the kids feel special. But, DONT SIGN THE CONTRACT ITS A TRAP. My son loved it the first few months everyone was nice. We moved I canceled our membership I had to pay 2-3 months worth of membership before they would let me cancel. Unless you know 100% you kid will go religiously don't make my mistake and sign that contract.
