Golden Isles Yoshukai Karate
The Golden Isles Yoshukai Dojo was started in 2013 by Sensei Lonnie Kelley. Classes for Golden Isles Yoshukai are taught out of the Golden Isles YMCA located in Brunswick, Georgia. The Children's class is for ages 5 - 11 and Adults 12 and up. Sensei Kelley has been studying the martial arts for over 25years beginning at the age of 12. He currently holds the following ranks: 3rd degree Black Belt in Yoshukai Karate, 1st Degree Black Belt in Ching Sai Do, 3rd Kyu in Ryu Kyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai. He has also trained in Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, American Karate and Greco Roman Wrestling.
Sensei Kelley is a certified instructor for the Yoshukai Karate International Association and Karate for Christ International Association.

Programs & Class Schedule
Children's Class. Ages 5-11 and Beginners
Tuesday's from 6:30 - 7:30
Adults-Advanced Class Ages 12-Adult and Children Green belt and above
Tuesday's and Thursday's 7:00-8:00

Children's class learn and practice basic techniques and stances of traditional karate. Students learn and practice introductory katas (forms) as well as apply basic applications to movements. and learn an introduction to the traditional weapons Nunchucku and Bo. Light contact sparring and introductory level kata are also practiced.
Adults and Advanced students refine basics and learn advanced kicking and striking, techniques. They also are introduced and practice sweeping, throwing, and join locking techniques. Students will practice advanced kata and will begin learning and practicing more advanced applications of movements in previous kata. Advanced weapon training with Nunchucku, Bo, Tonfa, and Sai are taught through weapon kata and weapon vs weapon sparring. Light to mild contact sparring is also practiced.
*** In addition to regular class, special training opportunities are offered for students to learn tournament protocol, and basics of board breaking. Each year our class holds a beach training on St. Simons Island as well as visits other schools in our association to learn Aikido, Stick Fighting, and Kobudo (Okinawan weapons) and train in the shores of Daytona Beach.
*** Golden Isles Yoshukai students compete in the Yoshukai Karate International Association tournament circuit as well as other open and invitational tournaments in the local and regional area. Participation in tournaments is completely optional and does NOT affect rank advancement. Our students have been very successful in competition and Sensei Kelley recently won Black Belt Grand Champion at the American Tang Soo Do Championships.
