Goju Toshin Ryu (Hard-Soft Sword-Mind System) encompasses kenjutsu and iaido from Hanguk Haedong Kumdo, hand-to-hand training from Goju Ryu Karate-Do, Kobudo training in various weapons (sai, tonfa, shuriken and shaken, etc.), Kigong (qigong), and mental training (self-hypnosis). Dr. Ron Mottern has actively trained in Hanguk Haedong Kumdo for over 20 years, receiving his initial rank and title in Taejon, Korea in 1995. He has actively trained in Goju Ryu Karate-Do for over 40 years. He has published articles on martial arts in Black Belt Magazine, Taekwon Do Times, Traditional Karate Magazine, Martial Arts of the World: An Encyclopedia (2 vols.), and Martial Arts of the World: An Encyclopedia of History and Innovation (2 vols). He holds a PhD in Educational Psychology & research from the University of Tennessee and is a professional clinical hypnotist. He provides private instruction for an elite clientele in the Austin, TX area (Liberty Hill).
