It Did A Lot For Me; I Would Really Recommend

I've been a student of Sensei Phil's for 6-7 years now and I've come a long way. I would most definitely recommend Sensei Phil to any parent who wants their child to be safer, more confident, more active, and/or more social. Karate did all this and more for me.

Sensei Phil is an extremely dedicated man who spends a lot of time working to improve himself and his dojo. He's often working and learning to improve, just as we are. He provides a wealth of information: he teaches several weapons, several self-defense techniques, several workout styles/programs, and demonstrates his endless collection of jokes to be absorbed as you come to class. The weapons he can teach are Sais, Tonfas, Fan, Kali Sticks, Kamas (His specialty), Nunchucks, Hook Swords, and the Katana.

Sensei Phil is rather unique in his teaching style that he jokes around and keeps you entertained while still guiding you on the right path. He's still strict when he needs to be, I can guarantee that, but he realizes that there is a time for everything.

I had been to other dojos before but I have never quite fit in because of my previously meek and shy personality. Being in this class has made me more outgoing and confident.

His schedule changes but he at the moment he is open every day of the week except Sunday.

He teaches all ages. (He has a Tiny Tigers class for really young kids and an Adult class for those who want to work only with adults. There have been kids from ages 4 to adults to age 45. )

I've seen several families work out together and it's really heartwarming to see; you won't see that in many dojos because a lot of dojos separate all classes by age.

The only thing that may throw you off is the dojo sizing, the sizing is a little small. However, I would still recommend it.

My 3 kids have been attending Gen Ki for the past year and love it. Sensei Phil's high energy and sense of humor while instructing keep the students engaged. My kids continue to develop their skills and enjoy attending classes. There is plenty of opportunity to continue to increase their skills, including self defense and relate them to real life experience.

My 3 kids have been studying karate under Sensei Phil for the past year. His high energy and passion for karate engages the students and encourages them to strive for excellence. He demonstrates skills, provides positive reinforcement, and encourages each and every student no matter what their skill level. My kids have become more self-confident with increased discipline since becoming students at Gen Ki. Rates are affordable with many class opportunities offered. We are so fortunate to have found this dojo and Sensei Phil!

I've been a student at Gen Ki for the past year. I tried other dojos, but found the instruction lacking and expensive. Sensei Phil is entertaining, making learning fun, and very knowledgeable about martial arts. The rates here are extremely reasonable. Love this place!

My 2 children have been students at Gen Ki for the past 3 years. They absolutely love coming to class and look forward to it every week. Sensei Phil's high energy is a huge motivator in the dojo. He works with each and every student to help them perfect their techniques. The fees are the most reasonable I have found in the Chicago area.

Sensei Phil is a highly motivated, dedicated instructor who leads by example. He takes the time to demonstrate techniques, explain their relevance in real-life situations and allows students to practice in a safe environment. He works patiently with students as they learn techniques and recognizes students with praise as they perfect their skills. All 3 of my kids have become more disciplined, have increased focus, and have become more responsible still becoming students at Gen Ki.

I have three boys that are in the program at Gen-Ki Karate of Chicago. Sensei Phil has a great sense of humor, is knowledgeable in the martial arts, has a lot of experience at teaching karate. Sensei Phil has a talent in training students not only how to learn to be a good student, but he is able to train students to be able to become a good teacher. The classes are reasonably priced. There is also additional discounts for brothers and sisters.
