Naginata is a Japanese medieval polearm, and modern practice/competition consists of kata as well as shiai (sparring) similar to Kendo. The training equipment is a wooden shaft with a curved bamboo "blade", similar again to the shinai used in Kendo.
Students will be provided with training equipment during class, but are advised to bring water, sunscreen, etc, and to wear weather-appropriate athletic clothing, as practice is held outdoors. During inclement weather, practice can be held at an alternate location upon request.
