John has a ton of experience in different martial arts traditions and brings it all together while teaching us the techniques. The training is paced well and does not make you feel awkward even if you have no background in martial arts. The class size is small enough to get good amount of one on one attention from John. That last part might change in the near future.

John's knowledge of the arts is clear in every class. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but can explain every movement so that it makes complete sense. His ability to combine many different martial arts styles into one is unparalleled. I am always amazed at the breadth and diversity of John's skill set, understanding, and ability to teach. I am truly fortunate to have the opportunity to train with such a Master.

I've been training martial arts for over 20 years. Every time I take a class at Roots Martial Art I always learn something new. John has a vast knowledge of many different styles. He also has a great gift of getting his students to understand the technique that he's teaching. He has a genuine, sincere and easy manner about him. He's always a great person to be around. He works with all different levels of students and always fits the teaching to what the student needs. I highly recommend any martial artist at any level to take classes at Roots Martial Art.

Roots Martial Art is martial arts with a focus on self defense. Mr. Festa is beyond knowledgeable in everything martial arts. It is fascinating and enlightening to hear his background and knowledge. He is currently instructing my two daughters ages 7 and 9. He is patient and persistent when teaching. His instruction is followed by notes and videos for easy practice. I highly recommend him.

Don't let the fun, informal atmosphere fool you, Roots teaches serious self-defense skills.
My boys have been enrolled in the school for about a year. They have progressed well, but more importantly they have been taught to use their skills thoughtfully, responsibly and deliberately. The school teaches self-defense and how to mange conflict rather than competition, which is exactly what I was looking for in a Dojo. The boys have been working with John Festa, who has been patient and kind while teaching them respect for the Art, the Dojo and each other. I highly recommend Roots Martial Arts for children or adults (I have learned a bit myself). Thank you Sensei John.
