I have numerous complaints but bottom line is these people care more about money than the actual instruction or safety of their students. Most of the time, the only instructor is Mrs. Doering, unless they have an older student volunteer. There is no organization, so class sizes range from 5 kids to 20 or more. My son was hurt during one of these busier nights. A child can be hurt doing Taekwondo, I know this. However I believe the school's negligence is at fault. Mrs. Doering set up 4 different stations with 5 or more kids at each. As the only instructor, it was impossible for her to actually ensure the correct movements were being made at any one station. So she had 4 - 6 year olds kicking and hitting each other and no one monitoring them to make sure they were doing it correctly and safely. I'm not a "Master" but I can tell you that is not a good plan. The end result was my son getting kicked in his throat. They did nothing but give us an ice pack and send us home. What I learned after is that they should not have even let him stand without verifying his breathing was normal for a period of time. We were lucky. That could have been a serious injury and the way they handled it could have made it deadly.
Student-centered: a perfect description of FastKick. My daughter has not only learned the physical skills of Taekwondo, but she has thrived outside of class through development of personal responsibilities and safety skills, such as formulating an escape plan in case of a house fire. FastKick is ALWAYS promoting the growth of the child - physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. The Doerings are true professionals who want the best for their students. As a parent, I want to surround my daughter with adults that model perseverance and integrity. The Doerings are these adults. I trust them with my daughter, and we view them as extended family.
