Real Martial Arts

This place is about the best martial arts school around for miles. Master Rounds uses only positive reinforcement and he is a master at re-direction. I'm a professional educator and I've seldom seen master teachers re-direct children's attention. He's masterful at it. I highly recommend for children and adults.

Master Rounds offers a full service martial arts experience with a family focus and a passion for tradition. At Edinboro Karate the student will learn many benefits that are even more valuable then the actual punching and kicking learned. Such valuable benefits include a character education program that includes self-discipline, courtesy and respect and courage.

Attending classes was the highlight of my child's day!

I'm a proud momma of a student who had much success at this dojo. Master Rounds has a philosophy of "teaching to the edges", which means taking students to the edge of her comfort zone and then asking her to blow past her imagined limitations. This is also known as "accelerated growth" and your children's confidence will soar! I know my child is now succeeding in college and much success can be attributed to Master Rounds.

Fair tuition, reasonable terms, and excellent instruction

This is a great karate school! I loved it there. (I was student all the way to black belt.)

Whomever signs a long-term contract saves a lot off on tuition, but it's all your choice. I went with 4 1-year contracts, which cost a little bit more but allowed me to quit at any time. Worked out great for me!

I also won two national championships while a student there. Great instruction!

Excellent Lessons and Very Personable Instructors

My son loves lessons at this dojo. We started at another dojo in Erie and the classes were entirely too large to be effective. I'm so happy we found this dojo and my son was more than eager to try again after taking a free class with Master Rounds. Master Rounds encourages parents to watch all classes and we've had nothing but great experiences here.

I know that there were a few parents a few years ago (about the time we started) that weren't happy with Master Rounds not promoting their children and actually failing one child, but I think that can be appropriate. This dojo is no "diploma mill". Your child (or yourself) will know 8 different parts of martial arts as their curriculum revolves around them--stances, blocks, kicks, strikes, self-defense, kata, rotations (memorized self-defense movements), and sparring. (Master Rounds uses tape on the belts to represent these areas so it is easy for parents and students to understand.)

Belt tests are consistently held and every student ready to test for promotion is encouraged to test. A graduation ceremony is used to celebrate the student's achievements.

I highly recommend this dojo for children and adults.

Unsatisfied with the lack of professionalism and inability to leave class

I have had a very poor experience with Edinboro Family Martial Arts Center. My young son was extremely interested in karate when he began but has quickly become uninterested. The Edinboro Family Martial Arts Center website boasts that they build self-confidence and self-esteem through continual positive reinforcement. However, my son is unchallenged in a group of kids who are not at his "maturity level" and twice his age and has been in unexpected situations where he feels extremely humiliated and deeply sad about his progress. I feel that my son was only put in this class to fill the time slot. I know that there are people at the center who have had enjoyed and benefited from their training there and I think that's great but I haven't which makes me wonder what kind of business owner would ignore your concerns and then refuse to let you leave? Because you can only join by signing a contract that uses electronic payments, your money goes to him whether his training is useful to you or not. I strongly urge that he either change his business methods or that customers just not join his facility.

Excellent life lessons for children and best self-defense I've learned anywhere

Being that my adult class starts shortly after children's classes end, I've seen many of Sensei Rounds mat chats with his younger students and I sense that the lessons he teaches are life lessons. You know the most important lessons in the world... However, I'm in his adult classes where he teaches all the usual martial arts stuff but there is just something about Sensei's brand of self-defense that gives me great confidence. Sensei Rounds doesn't pull any punches when it comes to laying it on the line for us. He certainly tells it like it is and he doesn't spoon feed us either. If I ask a question I'm likely to get a question back from him--he says that I'll have to think on my feet during an attack and won't be able to ask him for help! Sensei Rounds is a true Master, in my opinion.
