Dragon Keeper’s Dojo opened for business in 1999. Initially the school offered classes through local recreation departments, including Windham, Gray and Saco, and also at the YMCA. From there it has developed into a business that offers classes for all ages, self-defense classes, demonstrations, an after school program and a new pre-school class that goes directly to the child care centers in Maine.
Dragon Keeper’s Dojo teaches a form of karate known as Shotokan. Shotokan is a Japanese style of karate that originated in Okinawa and was founded by Master Gichin Funakoshi. Shotokan advocates personal advancement and individual development. It is also a style that promotes hard work, respect, humility and excellence. Students at Dragon Keeper’s Dojo are taught to improve not only their physical skills, strength and endurance, but also self-discipline, control, confidence, and respect for others.
The Pre-school class particularly develops gross motor skills, fine motor skills, eye hand coordination and attention span. It is also an excellent class to build social skills such as confidence and respect!
Dragon Keepers Karate is proud to offer a preschool program that goes directly to the local day cares in Maine. These classes offer basic Karate in a fun non-competitive atmosphere. Obstacle courses, high energy skilled based activities and games create a unique learning opportunity for the preschool age.
