My San Soo Lessons

5 January, 2010 was my first day at Double Dragons.
Prior to coming in and signing up I had made a conscious decision to clear my mind of any and all close quarter combat training or learning’s I have ever had or experienced as I have with other new trainings in effort to not cross reference trainings.
I had to become a total “dumbass” to allow my new instructors to teach me. On my first night of San Soo training I hit the rack (bed) buzzing with this San Soo stuff. During the night I had dreams of San Soo.
I had found Double Dragons after having stumbled into Jimmy H. Woo’s website. I was searching for something with foundation and application of forms and techniques. Something with more structure and discipline. Something or somewhere where the instructor did not focus on how bad other styles or instructors are; somewhere where the students are encouraged and allowed during class time to practice what students are taught. A huge thing for me is fun, this is fun for me.
What I found is a place where the instructors love their art and have a deep desire to pass on an ancient art that might have eventually died off. I found a place where everyone from the Masters to the lowliest student is more than willing to pass on what they learned exactly as they learned without deviations. I found a place where everyone is serious about learning what is being taught.
We even have fun learning and working out. One of us (this student) may at times have too much fun cracking jokes and laughing at someone else’s potential pain and injury, pain and injury I have felt many times before. I often laugh at my own screw-ups, but we learn from our mistakes in class, not in the street.
We are taught that once someone touches us, WE ARE THE OFFENSE; END IT WITHIN 5 SECONDS; NO ONE HAS A RIGHT TO TOUCH YOU; and THERE ARE NO RULES! I found a place where the Geneva Convention Rules do not apply. Bad people must be dealt with in like kind!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE DOUBLE DRAGONS KUNG FU SAN SOO!!
