I watched my kids do taekwondo for a long time before I gathered the courage to try it myself. The day I walked into the school in my dobok (uniform) and white belt, people actually cheered! I didn't feel like low man on the totem pole, I felt like family. It's been that way ever since. I have my black belt now, and when a new person, adult or child, comes in in that new uniform with their white belt, I cheer too!
