The Pine Forest Way Karate Club was founded by Sensei Will Wilkerson in August of 1979. Sensei Wilkerson came to Columbia, MO to continue his college education, going to school in the daytime and teaching karate in the afternoons and evenings.
The first school was located across from Ernie’s Cafe & Steak House on Walnut Street in Columbia, MO. Sensei Wilkerson’s friend, Terry Mitzi, helped by pitching in funds to help build the program. From there, the program grew. People came in and out as they passed through town, but the program continued to grow in strength, making us the longest standing karate program in the city.
In 2002, the Armory Dojo was established by Sensei Ray Walker through the city of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department, located downstairs in the Armory Sports Center in downtown Columbia, MO. Now, we offer several karate and self-defense classes for all ages and capabilities. Our program also includes a free six to eight week trial program for those interested.
