After visiting many different dojos throughout the Rogue Valley, I chose Chip Wright's for my 5yr old daughter. The instructors are kind, yet firm and help each student reach their potential regardless of learning style. There's no push to race through the belts like you find at other schools. Everyone trains at their own pace. The variety of classes offered make for a well rounded training experience. After 20 years of training, my daughter and I still learn something new every time we walk through the door! You've got to check this school out for yourself!!!

Chip Wright's Champion Karate is a wonderful school! We have tried other schools but Mr.Wright's school just feels different. Every instructor has been very professional and enthusiastic. When you walk in this school you feel comfortable and at home. My son is always excited to go to class and very inspired to learn more. All the instructors are amazing and thoughtful mentors! You will absolutely LOVE it there!

The hours are great every week but there is not much one on one time with any of the instructors. One thing I really didn't like about this school was how easy it is to achieve a black belt. I felt like I was being rushed to learn the forms and was unable to do them properly before I was moved onto the next form.
This is a great place to work out for strength and conditioning. Along with an hour long sparring session every week that really helps build up stamina.
Also, the instructors here are very nice!
I attended another karate school (on and off) over the last 5 years and would periodically attend classes at Chip Wright's Karate. I remember Chip from the early 1980's when he was competing on the point circuit and (at one time) was the number one competitor in the U. S.
These are my impressions of his adult classes and him personally:
Whatever qualities he possessed that propelled him to # 1 back in his competitive days (my guess is a high sense of awareness combined with good old fashion hard work) he seems to have applied to his teaching. From the 1st day beginner to black belts that have studied with him for 35 years---he's a super super nice guy to everyone in class. I have never been in another karate school where the instructor was so universally respected and liked by all of his students. Somehow he manages to balance that with classes that are run in a very disciplined manner---lots of sweating, talk/explanation is kept to a minimum.
If you're a rough and tumble sort that wants full contact action, then a school that teaches a combination of boxing and Jiu Jitsu would probably be a better choice (One could argue the merits of one martial arts style over another) But if you are like most people--working a fulltime job or going to school all day, and don't really feel like taking hard shots to the head in a ring at night, then this school is an excellent choice. In my opinion, the quality of instruction at this school is probably as good as it gets.
