Who's instructing the students?

Mar 22 2017 by Disappointed (Parent of a Student with 6 Months - 1 Year Experience at this school)

Quality of Instruction:

No!

The first few lessons were great but now Ross hardly instructs. Other students run the class - some that are still white belts. Parents step in to run the class from the sidelines. The instructor eats dinner, talks on the phone or stays in the back room and you don't even see him. There is no real class. You come and practice what ever the other kids are - like an open mat. No structure. When Ross gets on the mat and instructs, he's great. Wish that happened regularly.

Cannot comment on Ross. However had years of experience with Sensei Adam and Terri Theis. Be advised that Theis led to the demise of her last school. Adam is knowledgeable, but was asked to leave his former dojo at the request of the head instructor. Unsure of circumstances other than he was told to remove his patches and not come back. I wouldn't gamble with my child.

Keep Ross, Lose Theis

Ross is good and knowledgeable. Only issue we had was with Theis- she talks a good game of "girl power" and is encouraging. However, her behavior off the mat has proved to be less than appropriate. She is not an individual that I would want my daughter to emulate.

The instructors of chikara martial arts academy sensei Ross Greenberg and sensei Terri theise have made such a great impact in my life you don't just learn to defend you're self very well. You learn to build you're self and make better choices with everyday conflicts. This is not a school where you show up and you are just a student the instructors there know who you are and take the time to make you the best you can be and more ... This is a fantastic school completely unbeatable in every aspect of training in the martial arts and building a better you

Sensei Greenburg and Sensei Theis have mastered not only the instruction of martial arts techniques, but also in creating an awesome family atmosphere that is character building too! Their dynamic teaching style creates a perfect agreement between hands-on self defense and building qualities of integrity, respect, self-esteem, and discipline. This has been such a positive experience for my son who is enthusiastically soaking up this life-changing class. We are so thankful we've had the opportunity to experience this gift they've brought to the community!

The school is beyond what I ever expected when signing my boys up for classes. The Senseis are very passionate about their teaching. Their patience with the students is amazing. They really take the time to make sure each and every student gets their technique correct. They know all the names of all the students that attend the school which shows that they focus on each individual and not as a bunch of kids. IT makes my boys feel important to be known by the Senseis. My oldest was at another dojo for a while and he was just part of a group and not an individual. They also care about the parents too. It's not just about the kids. The Senseis are our friends and that makes me feel important too. It brings me joy to see my boys flourish in such an environment. I highly recommend Chikara Martial Arts Academy to anyone interested in learning with greatness.

What a great energy from Chikara Martial Arts. We love both instructors and feel that the school is off to a very good start. Best of luck to you guys. Totally appropriate for both adult and child. I understand Sensei Ross ran a school out of state before moving here. Best of luck on your new school.

How many places can kids safely play sword games??

My family has been involved with Chikara for about 12 months now.Its located in my favorite gym,Hometown Fitness in Plainfield.

They really make learning martial arts interesting by playing games and doing really fun drills with the kids. The padded sword is used for a variety of skill games.

Shihan Ross is fair but firm. Sensei Terre fosters the feminine energy among the girls, known as the "warrior princesses". Its a good mix along with Sensei Adam (the pushup master), and highest ranking students Gabe and Ryan. Looking forward to the dojos continuing success!Their demo team really rocks!!!
