I have recently trained at Kyoshi Williamson's dojo on a recent visit to the Destin/Niceville Florida area. I must say at the onset I am in the same association the Shorinkan Shorin Ryu as Kyoshi Williamson and prior to training at his dojo, I had met him several times previously. But that said I have trained in the martial arts for nearly 30 plus years all told earning Black Belts in several systems, with Shorinkan Shorin Ryu (Kobayashi Shorin Ryu, Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato) being my current and probably my last system. And in my years of study, I have attended many dojos and have studied under many sensei, some very good some not so.
I have found CD. Williamson karate dojo to be a very spacious, well equipped facility. The students range in all ages and abilities to kids to adults to beginners to very advanced black belt levels. I found the instructors, from Kyoshi Williamson, his son and the other instructors to be very proficient and knowledgable and excellent instructors. I found the three classes in which I took part, a monday, tues and thursday class to be enjoyable and challenging, each class I participated different aspects of the system were worked on. For example on Monday, it was Kata practice, Tuesday was Yakosuko Kumite or pre arranged sparring and Thursday the class was dedicated to free fighting. The Wednesday class is dedicated to Kobudo or the practice of Okinawan weapons.
I found the students to very enthusiastic and really getting into the workouts and classes. By the end of the class we were all sweating but thoroughly satisfied.
If you want to learn a real Okinawan Traditional Karate system that has a direct lineage to the main dojo in Okinawa, then I highly recommend this dojo. This dojo teaches life protection skills first rather than some dojos where its trophies first. If you are serious about learning a real Okinawan Karate System, look no further.

Kyoshi Williamson has been training in karate for over three decades and is an outstanding instructor. He uses his students to instruct newer students since he trusts them to oversee the new folk. This is common practice and nothing to be underestimated. His son had been training for decades as well, and is an incredible athlete.
I attended his school years ago and have nothing bad to say about the Kyoshi, a title well earned from the Okinawans. The lineage of Okinawan Karate is direct and well observed and this school takes training seriously. Take heed, the weak-willed not apply. I have not been associated with CD Williamson Karate in a long time but feel he deserves just dues.
If you want to train hard, and train to be a stronger, better person, this school is for you. For anyone else, there's probably a tae kwon do school around you can pay for your belts at.

CD Williamson karate entices you to join by offering $99 for 9 weeks. Then they pressure you to sign a one-year contract as it cannot be paid for on a monthly basis. They charge over $90 a month on a one-year contract and additional for the black-belt membership. This contract is water-tight, so once you sign, you're locked in for a year. And this is only the start of the costs. Each test is between $25 and $50 - not including mandatory patches that need to be put on the uniform before taking the tests. Nor does it include the cost of equipment. The karate instruction is mediocre at best and each day the lessons are the same. My child is bored during most class times as he does the same drills over and over. While Sensei Coy is great with the kids, Kyoshi Williamson is arrogant and demeaning. I would NOT receommend this karate school to anyone, and regret signing up myself.

MY SON WHO IS NOW 12YRS OLD HAS BEEN ATTENDING FOR OVER A YEAR, AND MY DAUGHTER WHO'S TURNING 5YRS OLD ENJOYS MARTIAL ARTS. KYOSHI, IS A STAND-UP GUY, WITH MUCH INTEGRITY AND POSITIVE ATTITUDE. HE ALSO HAS A STAFF THAT MIRRORS THE EXACT SAME PROFESSIONALISM AND ATITUDE. mY SON WHO IS DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD AND LEARNING DISABILITIES HAS BECOME A BETTER KID SINCE BEING ENROLLED. HIS GRADES ARE OUTSTANDING, HE HAS SO MUCH MORE CONFIDENCE IN HIMSELF AND SELF CONTROL. WE LOVE IT AND IF YOU GAVE IT A TRY U WOULD TOO. ONE THING.....WHAT PEOPLE DO IN THEIR OFF TIME IS THEIR BUSINESS!!!! I HAVE YET TO SEE ANYTHING OTHER THAN GREATNESS IN THIS DOJO @CD WILIAMSON. THANK YOU,
On a wall in the dojo at CD Williamson Karate there are the following words: dedication, discipline, growth, humility, patience, strength, commitment, self control, spirit, focus and achieve. These are the qualities expected of, taught to, and honed by students at the dojo. Kyoshi Williamson and his staff of sensei instructors do a superlative job of helping to transform those words into objective reality. The instructors are a very personable and caring group who bring creativity and fun to the process of taking their white belt novices along the steps toward the coveted Black Belt. Along the way the words on the wall expand beyond the dojo as the foundations of good character, fit bodies and successful future endeavors. I give my highest recommendation and heartfelt regards to CD Williamson Karate. Stop by and see them. The rewards are priceless!
