I would visit different levels of class and talk to parents before joining.

The owner/instructor has a bad habit of hitting kids in the back or side of head and laughing it off like its a joke. He says things (thinking it's funny) directly to the children that's mean. I've personally witnessed this on a couple occasions. The parents don't seem to care. .. But if he does this to my child he will find himself in a lawsuit!
