I have been Training with Shihan Brian Sweetser at Bay State Martial Arts for some time now and I have to say, it has been very rewarding. Shihan is one of the nicest guys I know, and probably the best martial artist I've ever met. He primarily teaches Kenpo, but also throws in some Jiu-Jitsu, effectively balancing between the striking-based combos of Kenpo, and the joint manipulation-based techniques of Jiu-Jitsu, which is why the dojo is called Bay State Martial Arts, not Bay State Kenpo. Self-defense is the primary focus, rather than sparring, so although I cannot say that this will not be a good dojo if you are looking to compete in tournaments, as you could easily apply a lot of the techniques we learn in sparring, it likely will not focus on that. As I mentioned before, I have been training for a long time, and have grown up in that time, so I can confirm that Shihan is as good with kids as he is with teenagers and adults, and that his training is very effective. I recommend this dojo for anybody who wants to learn how to defend themselves, regardless of age.
