Adam and Rory Singer (both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts under Roberto Traven) started Athens Fitness and MMA with a small group of dedicated students at the University of Georgia in 1999. As the sport of Mixed Martial Arts grew in popularity so did the brothers classes. In 2002, the first off campus incarnation of the gym opened. Even with few creature comforts the gym quickly outgrew its surroundings. Since that time the gym has moved and expanded four times. Our new facility opened in September 2010 and we continue to grow as we add more programs and training opportunities for people ages 4 to 400.
Adam Singer has been a life long student of the Martial Arts with over 20 years of experience. Since watching his first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC 1) in 1993, Adam has dedicated his life to training Mixed Martial Artists. His proudest achievements in the sport include training two world champions (Forrest Griffin and Brian Bowles), being voted three time Georgia MMA Coach of the Year, and helping 1000s of people reach their goals. Adam and his wife Dana have a beautiful daughter Sydney-Rose and a furry son named Boomer. Adam is also a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Masters Degree in Bio-Engineering.
