The American Karate Association trains Japanese/Okinawa Styles in Kata and mixed styles for self defense. Bunkai (practical application) and Kobudo (weapons) is trained with higher ranking students. Students learn self discipline, self control, fitness, courtesy and respect. Character building and tournament training are wonderful for social development.
The Head Instructor is Linda Pugliese 8th Dan with 45 years of experience. Linda has 5 NBL World Championships and competed in Fukuoka Japan on the USA karate team at the Woman's World Cup. She also won a Gold medal at the Olympic Mexican Festival in Mexico City in 1993. Most recently in the summer of 2020 she won 3 Gold Medals in Dublin Ireland.
Competition is a great tool to encourage self improvement, additional training and is socially exciting and stimulating.
Active self protection strategies and awareness of your surroundings is stressed in each class along with the vital areas to strike. Belt testing and promotion occur every 3 to 4 months.
