Check out this school!

I have been in the martial arts and combat arts for over 45 years. I am a retired Army veteran having served in infantry, airborne, military intelligence, special operations, etc. I am also a former law enforcement officer working for several departments and have worked several fields including: patrol, investigations, violence suppression unit, defensive tactics, firearms and range master. I have also worked as a private investigator and I currently work in the field of executive protection.

I have been involved in both the Moy Yat and Wong Shun Leung lineage of Wing Chun for over 40 years now. I have lived, fought and trained in Thailand as a Muay Thai boxer, becoming a 3 time province champion. I have been an Army Combatives instructor, as well as Goju Black Belt (under Ron Van Clief and Lou Angel), A Kyokushin Kai Black Belt, with several rankings in the Filipino martial arts of escrima and arnis de mano (stick & blade arts). I have also taught all over the world and have been deployed all over the world. I would think that I know something about martial arts, the streets, combat and surviving violent encounters. But enough about me.

When I see negative comments made by a former student (calling himself Sifu Wing Chun) who has been stalking Sifu Carroll all over the internet, it is time for me to write something. This “SiFu wing chun” has contacted me & tried desperately to convince me to not support SiFu Carroll because SiFu Carroll told him he wasn’t qualified to teach. This “sifu wing chun” guy even tried to ask if I would accept him as a student and if he could “purchase” rank from me in the future? And I told him “No”! Ever since, he has tried to slander and defame Sifu Carroll on every possible site and he gets some personal sick satisfaction in doing this. I highly recommend SiFu Carroll & I don’t take endorsing lightly. You owe it to yourself to check out SiFu Carroll. Enough said.

Sifu Carroll is the real deal

I have been training in the combat arts for 38 years as of Feb 1, 2018. I hold instructors rank that I earned in four methodologies to include USA Goju (Hanshi Balfour Wright-teacher), Pekititersia (Tuhon Tim Wade-teacher), BaHaD ZuBu Ilustrisimo (GM Yuli Romo-teacher), Wing Chun (Sifu Scott Baker-teacher). I also have created and developed the S. E. A. M. O. K. System which has been taught all across the USA along with the G. B. CQC Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun work which was developed through hard work with some of the best firearms and tactics teachers in the business. My name is Mike Blackgrave.

When I read disparaging remarks about teachers I can’t help butt scoff, obvious bias rears it’s head and thin skinned individuals chime in about what they think will work in violence and what won’t, all based on photos [see review by sifu/wingchun] they deem inaccurate. Yet with these remarks comes no name, no anything except vitriol which in truth weakens any stand or argument presented.

As to Sifu Carroll, I am a Pvt student of his and yes I am much older than he. I saught him out because he is extremely good at what he does, and he teaches ways in Wing Chun that I was not made privy to until now. That to me is gold. I see where people say what he teaches wasn’t the way he was taught, an obvious jab at a falling out between Sifu and then student, which in truth has nothing to do with the lamentor other than too stir a pot.

Sifu Carroll is damn good at his craft and teaches straight up and disciplined, the old School way. If you don’t want to pay up to gain advanced knowledge then perhaps YMCA kiddy karate is more to your liking. If you want to besmirch him yet leave no name then you are a coward.

Others are jealous of this SiFu

If you look at this guy’s references, you will note one thing, they are mostly from prior trained masters, military personnel, police officers and other professionals that have to utilize force tactics to deal with real world bad guys. He seems to have quite a jealous group that seeks to besmirch his name. There have been some students that were kicked out for aggression towards their wives, mishandling and misrepresentation, propositioning other students to engage in inappropriate activities, etc. This is probably just them retaliating anonymously. In my personal experience since I began under SiFu Carroll in 2007, I have found him to be exactly what his references say he is and his school to be what every school should be. With many years of experience combined in both the military and law enforcement, I can honestly say that what he teaches is real to life and not just some dance like drills that require multiple “you do this they do that techniques”. If you want to learn, SiFu Carroll can and will teach you. He holds nothing back. Seek him out if you are looking for professionalism and references beyond a single lineage or style. http://alabamawingchun. com/references/

I care not about politics, or lineage when it comes to the safety of MY students.

I'm telling you point blank, from looking at their FB page pictures while training defense again blades, this guy is clueless.

Beware of this kwoon, what he teaches is NOT real world against blades, and will NOT work.

Or, go train, pay the outrageous hidden sums of $$ then test it and see how well it works. Hope you survive to tell the story.

Either way, heed the advice, or not. I've said my peace.

What this "Sifu" is teaching is not what he was taught--not even close.

I selected this school because I was seeking a soft style of martial art with an instructor that could trace his lineage back to the beginning of the system. Sifu Carroll can trace his lineage back to Yip Man. I am a senior citizen and have no problems training with this class. Sifu Carroll is a professional teacher at his day job and this shows in his preparation for our classes. We have a good group of students that work together well to help everyone learn. If you want to learn Wing Chun I highly recommend that you visit one of our classes before selecting somewhere to train.

Alabama Wing Chun is a school that sets itself apart. Unlike others schools I've attended and heard about, there are no egos at AWC. Instead, you get practical, tested training from the first day you attend. Each and every person there is driven to not only learn for themselves but to help their fellow students improve. If you're looking for solid, dependable training in an atmosphere of constant improvement, this is the place you want to be.

Top Down Advanced Defensive Training

I have been there for over a year and the classes are in-depth and very practical. We have learned Knife and open hand training simultaneously. Basic Structure/Forms and the more advanced application training that will save your life in a modern defensive situation. I would recommend this training class to all in the Northern Alabama and Central Tennessee area. I personally drive two hours each way to the classes two times a week and it is well worth the trek. Alabama Wing Chun is the only place to be in the Rocket City area for Wing Chun.

Wing Chun is intricate and ideal for self defense. Here you will learn techniques on how to save your life in real world scenarios, not for sport or competition. The teacher is knowledgeable and the students are helpful. I wouldn't go anywhere else to learn.

You will not receive all the training unless you pay more for private classes. You will only receive the basics until you invest heavily.
