My children and I have been with AKF Crystal Lake for years and really enjoy going - my oldest son has been going for 10 years. The instructor is excellent (John Cantin - 6th Dan) and the people that attend are fun and friendly as well. All of my children started with the pee-wee class and we have continued over the years. Classes are offered in Kyuki-do, Judo, Jujitsu, and Hapkido - there's something for anyone interested in the martial arts and wanting to stay active. The mat is very good quality and very forgiving - especially for those of us 40+ years old.
The classes are back to back and too short. They need a small gap to allow kids to leave and others to get ready to start. Too often a class is cut short a few minutes because the previous class went slightly long. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but 30 minute classes is barely enough time to warm up and practice skills. They also want your child to promote every month which equates to another $35 a month on top of their high costs while it is not mandatory you'll be guilt-ed into paying. I would shop around before choosing this dojo.
