I have very little martian arts experience and was curious about trying Aikido. I was pleasantly surprised when I came to Tanshinjuku. The instructors, Izawa Sensei and Furuya Sensei were warm and inviting when I first began. As I have continued studying with them they have remained supportive and encouraging, as have all my classmates. I really enjoy and appreciate my experience here.

This is a great place to learn a traditional martial art. Izawa Sensei is warm, approachable, highly knowledgeable, and takes great care in his instruction. Izawa Sensei is a student of the late Kanai Shihan, which gives you a sense of the dojo's style of training.
Recently switched to this dojo after 10+ years of aikido

I have belonged to several Aikido dojos of different styles over the years. Despite coming from a different style, I was very openly and warmly welcomed here by both the instructors and students. There is a lot of patience shown as I, and others, learn new techniques. Izawa sensei is very approachable and gives lots of individual attention to his students. He provides good instruction but then allows plenty of time for students to deepen in practicing the techniques. He often does progressions with increasing intensity after a warming up period, so both new students and veterans wind up having lots of fun. Beginners are taught separately when appropriate. It is serious Aikido but in a very warm and fun environment. I recommend this dojo highly for beginners and veterans alike.

Izawa Sensei is excellent. When he is not traveling he personally teaches all the classes. Whether you are a beginner or a black belt he tries to explain the techniques and applications. His explanations are both physical and intellectual. The physical explanations are demonstrations on multiple Ukes of varying ages and body sizes. Intellectually he explains how things are working on a bio-mechanical aspect. He is patient and sincere, a real Colorado treasure!
Izawa Sensei a huge repertoire of techniques and has an excellent way to teaching them. We never forget that we do Aikido as a martial art. And the students are very supportive of each other. We have a range of ages from some fun teenagers that train diligently to some older people like me that work hard to keep up.
