Aikido of Livermore-Shinrei Dojo was established in 1989 and was the first Aikido dojo in the Tri-Valley area. We offer traditional martial arts training in the Japanese arts of Aikido and Shinkendo. The dojo’s founder and chief instructor is Jim Alvarez Sensei. Alvarez Sensei has been training for over 42 years and holds the ranks of Aikido-Rokudan/6th Degree Black Belt, Shinkendo-Kyoshi and Toyama Ryu Batto-do-Sandan/3rd Degree Black Belt.
We are a member of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU), an association of more than 90 affiliated dojos. Mitsugi Saotome Shihan serves as the supervisory instructor for these ASU dojos. ASU is affiliated with Aikido World Headquarters-Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Japan. Our dojo is also affiliated with the International Shinkendo Federation founded by Kaiso Toshishiro Obata. Kaiso Obata acts as head instructor for over 85 Shinkendo dojos in the US and around the world.
