Hanshi Tyler is a wonderful instructor who truly cares about each of his students, from the very young to the old, is dedicated to helping them learn the art of karate as well as practical steps to protecting themselves, and who first and foremost wants to glorify God. This dojo has a close-knit, family-friendly, country flavor, but at the same time maintains strict observance to one of the oldest strains of karate from Okinawa. A typical practice ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on belt level, and includes practicing stances, attacks and blocks, learning katas, practicing katas with bunkhai, games, and sparring. This dojo houses a wonderful community where you will enjoy yourself and hard work is rewarded.

This school is very traditional and well disciplined for the true martial arts person who wants to learn the real deal. Sensei Tyler is the true old style and if you want to win at competitions----this is the school to learn from. If you want to get in shape and build your body mass the work out is as good as the gym but you are learning self defense at the same time as well as getting into shape.
Honshi (9th degree black belt) Bill Tyler provides an honest and direct class. His teaching of Shorin Ryu are directly from Okinawa and the katas are pure. There is no frivolity in his classes, and you will learn true self defense. I absolutely recommend Adirondack Self Defense if you want to learn TRUE karate.
