The "Grandmaster" Ted seemed like he just wanted students to stroke his ego in order for him to accept you as a student. One of his top students is also one of my teachers at the local school for Chinese medicine, and he had told Ted that I had a background in Kung Fu and he seemed interested in meeting me. So after a couple months of training just with the guy who teaches at my school, I come in on a day when the "Grandmaster" was there. The first thing he says to me is "we're going to teach you the details. " I felt kind of insulted since I've been doing martial arts for nearly twenty years. But I tired to be respectful and went along with it and said "great, I'm here to learn. " So after the class he's talking to me about my experience and then says that I'm going to have to leave it all behind. I disagreed, which he didn't like and told me I wasn't welcome back. He then went on to tell me about how he had a student that was a high level Kempo teacher and that she had forced herself to forget it all to be his student. He then told me that he didn't want to waste his time correcting a style he never taught.
