Programs & Class Schedule
___Tiny Tigers___
The Tiny Tiger program is specifically targeted at our 4 to 6 year old students. It offers children a strong foundation in essential character qualities such as courtesy, respect, and discipline. In addition, the program is designed to improve children's motor skills and enhance their ability to pay attention and follow directions. All classes are taught using the most safe, fun, and exciting instruction methods available for the age group.
Benefits of the Tiny Tigers program
This program works in conjunction with the Karate for Kids program, emphasizing the same important monthly themes and value system. When they graduate from the Tiny Tiger program to the Karate for Kids program, students are rewarded with the Karate for Kids patch and belts.
We also explore topics that include:
Avoiding conflicts
Dealing with bullies
Self-defense
Proper respect for adults
Stranger awareness
Respect for self and others
Saying "no" to drugs and peer pressure
Rank Advancement
The rank and testing system used by the Tiny Tigers, however, is different from that of the Karate Kids. Tigers have their own belt system which includes special patches at each new level. The belt levels for Tigers are:
Tiger
Cheetah
Lion
Eagle
Phoenix
Dragon

___Ages 7 - 12 - Karate Kids___
The Karate Kids are our 7 to 12 year old students. They are all different in size and maturity, but are united by the desire to participate in an organized athletic program with a variety of activities and goals. This specially-designed program offers children many benefits that will help shape their future by giving them self-respect and confidence in their own abilities. The Karate for Kids motto is: "EVERY KID IS A WINNER!"
Benefits of the Karate for Kids program
SELF-CONFIDENCE- Children become more self-confident in the Karate for Kids program because they progress at their own pace rather than being judged against others.
SELF-DEFENSE- The Karate for Kids program teaches children to think instead of panic in potentially serious situations as well as how to react to threats from other kids. Our program offers practical self-defense lessons that emphasize conflict resolution. We teach Karate Kids to practice common sense before self-defense.
RESPECT - Our program focuses on teaching children to respect themselves and others. Respect, courtesy and personal integrity are values the Karate for Kids program instills in the students.
BETTER GRADES- Being a Karate Kid also means being a better student. All kids in the Karate for Kids program learn skills, such as following directions, paying attention in class, and participating in class activities that help them to become better students. Acceptable grades are required to test for the next belt level.
GOAL SETTING- Our program helps each child to determine what their personal goals are. Once the Karate for Kids student sets his/her goals, our trained instructors will help the student reach for and achieve their goals.
POSITIVE ROLE MODELS– Our instructors and high-ranking students work hard to be positive role models for the newer students. Your Karate for Kids student will be taught to understand the difference between positive and negative role models and constructive and negative behavior.
EVERY CHILD WINS- In the Karate for Kids program, every kid can be a winner instead of a bench sitter because our program allows children to reach for their own potential rather than directly competing against other kids.
COORDINATION- Physical participation in the Karate for Kids program challenges the entire body, developing coordination, balance, agility and poise, which can be neglected in many team sports. The ATA forms emphasize both the left and right side of the body. This attention to the entire body improves the students' balance, eye-to-hand coordination, reaction time, and complements many other sports, such as soccer, baseball, softball, football, basketball, and gymnastics.
FUN! – Karate for Kids lessons are a dynamic and challenging approach to the martial arts. The classes are designed to meet the level of all children whether they are athletic, energetic, awkward, shy, bold, or nice (or maybe even a little wild once in a while!) Regardless of these differences, the Karate for Kids program will allow your child to both work hard and have fun.
MONTHLY THEMES - Our instructors emphasize and discuss monthly themes. Examples of these themes are:
Goals
Self-Control
Courtesy
Integrity
Friendship
Confidence
Self-Awareness
Self-Esteem
Perseverance
Self-Improvement
Respect
Dedication
Victory Patches- In addition to monthly themes, the Karate for Kids program uses a unique victory patch system. Kids are awarded colored stars for outstanding performances in class, at school, at home, or at tournament competitions to put on their patch. They receive new patches after earning a certain number of stars. Kids may receive the stars for the following deeds:
Saying "Yes sir/ma'am" when addressed
Working hard and having a good attitude in class
Bringing in a good report card from school
Competing in tournaments
Standing out when testing for their next belt

___Adults and Teens____
The Teen program is for 13 to 19 year old students. The Adult program is for students over the age of 19. In these classes, we work with students to overcome their personal obstacles and be the best they can be whether they come to us physically fit or not. The Teen and Adult programs are meant to challenge students, but both are modifiable to suit each individual based on their abilities. Many accomplished and successful athletes have joined the ATA to complement their sports training and give them the edge on their competition!
Adults start at any age. Some adults join the ATA as late as age 65, and have still earned their black belts. As a student, you are looked upon as an individual and never compared to anyone else. Our instructors will be there every step of the way. All that is expected of you is a willingness to work and improve to the best of your own ability.
Benefits of the Teen and Adult programs
Fitness- The principles of taekwondo techniques are based on the design of your body. For power you develop the larger, powerful muscles of the torso. The speed of the techniques comes from the fast, agile muscles of the arms and legs. As you progress in taekwondo you will learn to coordinate this speed and power, developing concentration to focus all of your body's strength into a small, hard striking surface like the edge of the hand or the heel of the foot. Many students also experience weight-loss, lower stress levels, increased energy, and greater flexibility.
Self-defense- When the speed and power developed through taekwondo is used in a self-defense situation against the soft vulnerable parts of an attacker's body, the result can be incredible. Taekwondo teaches students to emphasize their physical strengths and apply these to dangerous situations with much larger opponents. Our martial arts system and techniques specifically designed for self-defense allow our students to build their confidence and be prepared to defend themselves from potential attackers. We also hold self-defense seminars specifically for women.
Self-confidence- This does not come naturally for many people, but self-confidence can be developed over a period of time. Taekwondo can help with this by instilling a sense of discipline and self-confidence that can carry over to all aspects of your life.
