Poor excuse of a dojo imo

every student who leaves this school, seems leaves on bad terms with the owner. School rules seem ridiculous. You are forced to bow to the sensei in public and at restaurants. you are told to buy gear directly from her, even if you can find it cheaper elsewhere. lackluster school with poor quality instruction.

Toxic Dojo in my opinion

I used to be a student here and I will say as far as commercialism goes, Red Sun is great. The school offers no contracts, and you just don’t find that with a lot of martial arts schools.

However, when I tried to leave for college, the Sensei ended up kicking me out and left a very unprofessional email in my inbox. My expulsion was without provocation, and had the Sensei allowed me to explain my position (I wanted to come back as a student after college graduation) she would’ve understood that my decision to leave was only temporary, not permanent, but her expelling me, made my decision much easier.

I was also told that I was no longer allowed to speak to any of my friends at the academy, because I was no longer a student (which I find absurd that the Sensei believes she can restrict one’s social circle outside of her school. )

Since I left Red Sun, I’ve spoken with several other students/ former students who encountered similar experiences with the Sensei, and were expelled for either having a difference of opinion or trying to leave for work/school.

I’m my opinion, I don’t believe the Sensei exhibits the same standards/character traits, that she holds her students to. I’ve also seen another older, female teacher scream, berate, and belittle students, and I find that kind of conduct very unbecoming of any martial arts instructor.

Also, it seems like the quality of instruction is lacking as most of the teachers seem to be out of shape. Red Sun seems to be more of a weight loss adventure camp, than a competent martial arts school, in my opinion.

Hopefully RSA can turn things around, because I did have a lot of great memories there and made a few life long friends.

The instructors are fantastic

The instructors are fantastic with the kids and they offer extra help after class to see that each child understands what is taught. The adults did a demo and were awesome.
