For those looking to improve themselves

I joined Wei Yong because I was looking for a way to step up my physical fitness and learn a valuable skill in the process. I got what I was looking for and then some.

Sifu Jason is truly a professional instructor, who not only teaches the technique, but also takes the time to explain the real world applications behind them. His equation is Wisdom + Speed = Power, meaning that first you will learn how, then you will become quick at it, which will result in a powerful technique.

Jason and his family are exceptional people who welcome students into their family or 'Ohana. I was very nervous my first day, but that soon changed as I realized how laid back and accepting they are.

I highly recommend Wei Yong for those already in good shape or those who are just starting their fitness journey. Come check it out!

I have been practicing martial arts for 13 years now, and I have seen a lot of schools, but Wei Yong is one of the rare few that combines traditional methods and values with modern teaching. The teacher is very gifted in his art and has a long history of training. The school focuses on O'hana or family, which is an excellent way to bring the students together as one group. The classes are very organized and taught with lots of information and a large focus is put on the students personal progress. The other students are very friendly and welcoming and always ready to answer questions and help new people. I really enjoyed my time at Wei Yong, and I don't plan on leaving! Hope to see you soon!

The dedication to the traditional and personal empowerment is something unique to Wei Yong. Here, Sifu VanWinkle pushes students to achieve discipline and ultimately gain a deeper understanding of Martial Arts. In combination with teaching technique, the concept of O'Hanna is a wonderful support network that strengthens the bonds between students and teacher. Overall, the values of Wei Yong are exceptional and more desirable than most Martial Arts groups.

Skills, knowledge, and history.

Sifu (teacher) Jason VanWinkle brings all the knowledge of applications as well as teaching the skills to do so in Northern Kung Fu. His ability to teach these things as well as the history of the art make it both classical and practical. In these arts you will find both the realistic approach to self defense, as well as the humility to refrain from violence. Self discipline, pride, and self esteem will be gained as you progress through ranks and realize all you can achieve. The students are welcoming, regardless of rank and previous experience. A more difficult to find style, Northern Kung Fu is full of hidden knowledge that you begin to understand as you practice, even from the beginning. Believing in a family more than a school Wei Yong presents friendship and help in understanding even the more difficult aspects of training both with students and teachers. I recommend the style based on self defense aspects and better conditioning than most schools offer, believing you must push yourself to become better and in that you will see no reason for violence. The tournament aspect doesn't appeal to me, however the forms and sparring skills taught will definitely bring something challenging to the other local schools. While most schools present only empty hand skills, many weapons are taught in depth to higher ranking students including three different types of swords, daggers, staff, spear, and others.

While many arts claim superior skills and training, Wei Yong also presents the history and knowledge of why to its students. We learn where our style comes from and the importance of its history to modern practitioners.
