Eskrima, also known as Arnis or Kali, is the deadly Filipino fighting art, especially renowned for its knife fighting and sword fighting skills.Eskrima generally starts with double stick or double bastion techniques and drills, then proceeds to single stick or bastion, followed by espada y daga or stick and dagger, then knife, and finally Mano mano or hand to hand. Eskrimadores are particularly famous for their street wise knife fighting and defense skills.
Eskrima is also known for its highly effective weapons disarming techniques, and Dumog, or Filipino wrestling, grappling and ground fighting. Though the basic movements of Eskrima are initially practiced with sticks, they can also be performed with knives, swords, any weapons, or empty handed.
Eskrima’s quickness and power also played a prominent role in the establishment of Bruce Lee’s “super-art” of Jeet Kune Do, as Grandmaster Dan Inosanto worked very closely with Bruce Lee to help establish JKD, synergizing the core of Ip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu with the FMA.
