I've seen plenty of video's on this system. Like many other modern day Jujitsu Systems they are modification of classical techniques. What the instructor is doing, is nothing new, however the philosphy is over the top. The notion that we train for the street and the concrete jungle and this is not sport, seems to miss a few important aspect of competition. First, Boxing is a sport would you really want o get into a street fight with Mike Tyson or Flyod Mayweather ? I think not. Secondly anyone that has been involved in any aspect of combative competition would tell you first hand that there are number of facotrs that go into competition, trying to execute a tecnique on a non compliant Uke is very difficult. So compettetion gives you that expericane of modifying your techinique in a real life situation. Now we can argue obout refs rules, ect. The fact is that SHIA is the best practise for real life situations. The other aspect of over the top mentality is the overkill techniques. For someone to say that I rather be judged by twelve than carried by six is a street thug menatlity, that attitude comes from the isntructor. Show me your students and I will tell you what kind of sensei you are. I am a New York City Correction officer and have been involded in many real life dangerous situations and I assure you Jail or prison in not where you want to be. I am not saying do not defend yourself, but justification for use of deadly force is a very serious matter and as an instructor teaching these techniques with no regard for consequnce puts himself and his students in a very bad situation. I am not questioning his skill level but more his training mentality. Further more 10 Degree, that is a serious red flag dude, Who sanctioned that? and did the person have the authority to do so?

Hanshi Kevin Pereira is a solid martial artists, what he has done with Shishikan is get to the point which is self defense. I have had many conversations with him and though he is young he has the correct mental and physical aptitude of a person years older, one need only to speak to the man to know this. As far as him being after money that is total BS he sent me a series of his videos when i was out of work and said "Brother don't worry about paying me your trust and belief in me is enough." Now that speaks volumes about his character. As far as him being a 10th Dan yes he is he is the Soke of his own system he needs no back up for that. Hanshi Kevin just keep producing great students and do your thing brother..

I love this modern day system where you are taught the martial way in a modern world. I feel confident & strong in what I am able to do in the street, self-defense wise. I am able to defend my body as I see fit. Now as being an over-kill, noooo...not at all. Now if you don't train at a dojo/dojang, you may see it as that. However, one video of Hanshi Kevin Pereira's holds many techniques, it's different ways to defend ones self... Of course a practicing martial artist would know the degree of self-defense needed in order to keep safe. Look up what this system comprises, then leave a comment. I haven't even seen you in class to have a comment about it. If someone grabs my behind...hmmm...I might just chop him in the throat but, that could also maim him/her. I could break his/her finger(s), arm... Get my drift! No one is going to stab him...now a knife weilding assailant...that is different...I want to make it home to my family or at least they could visit me behind bars. We also train how to see danger coming to avoid it!!

The black belts of Shishikan Bujutsu Kai are the real deal! They earned their belts & no one person could take that from them. They all have heart & have earned their ranks. It seems as if some one ticked off the Lion house . Hear us roar !! You talking all that smack. Wasn't you invited to the dojo to get those feelings squared away? I love the comments fellow brothers!

Have a good night fellow Martial Artists, those who have respect for the martial way. Osu!

P.S I'm not here to talk smack & remember I'm a female. Most punks would talk down to a female rather a male!!!

I studied for five years under this certain system and tested for four hours, no one gave me anything. In fact I remember giving you a run for your money as a green belt. Moreover, the only one "given" a blackbelt was you after only a yr and change of system specific training. You sound jealous and bitter. Maybe 4000$ will help you feel better, that's right the court found you were lying. Much like you are today. Hanshi invited you to see him directly and you punked out. Smdh. I was gonna go in on you, but I won't tell anyone how you took a shit in an elementary school hallway. Or how you got arrested over and over for picking fights. Or made youtube videos spreading lies and boarder line obessive behavior,I also won't metion how you peed on an ex-girlfiends door. Or threaten to kill her new boyfriend. I won't mention how when I suggested we train, you wanted to call it "killing lions" Tie your belt?! You couldn't even touch mine.Because mine is a real Shishikan Black Belt. And yours was a gift. You are an evil, bitter, Lunatic. you will be reported if you are seen. Such a shame. From this post everyone will know that Darrius Attrition has and continues to physically threaten the lives of Hanshi Pereira, Sudent Vanessa and her children. And anyone that associates with this group. For this reason he has been blacklisted from many organizations. All Legal action against such behavior is not only allowed, but recommended.

Your review doesn't warrant a reply but it should be exploited for what it is. Your personal vandetta with Hanshi is not that of the Dojo or those who study Shishikan. Insinuating those who have remained at the school from its inception are ass kissing students is childish and shows your lack of integrity. Going as far as making false claims of being the ONLY true black belt of the system is silly and ill advised. Many have come and gone since your falling out. Look deep within yourself and examine what the real issue is. Don't invite others to your problems. I for one called you brother and kept you in that respect but don't get it twisted.

I trained and hold a Black Belt in this system when the system was still something real... Now... Are you kidding me... The current Black Belts couldn't even tie my belt. There is NO more true skill being taught and can only imagine Kevin “Honchi” greed and ego of “Kiss me ass” has only gotten worse over the years. O ya… He is great at first but as time passes you realize just how huge the man’s ego really is. Is he a skilled Martial Artist, Yes… BUT the moment you begin to get close to his skill level or god forbid surpass him, he will throw you out of the school and try to de rank you… He’s nothing more than an ego maniac which loves the sound of his own voice. And the only reason he has the black belts he does is because they all stood around to kiss his ass the longest… There is no real skill because these are the same guys when I was still around wouldn’t even dear squire up with me… And to promote a child… to “Jr. Black Belt”… Really… WTF is a Jr. Black Belt… Either you are or you’re NOT… Going to leave that one alone because I don’t believe in speaking ill of kids but needless to say Wow… Goes to show some things never change… Take the collections of Gi’s and Belts away (Which is all to stoke his ego) you have a wanna be…

Shishikan comes off as the real deal but make no mistake it is a “Mc Dojo” he just doesn’t have enough students yet to have to seem as such. And now you’re running around calling yourself a 10th Don…?... Who promoted you…?... Last I remember, you were being told NO left and right… And please save your boxes of fake diplomas… Show me one with a real name stamped on it…

Bottom line, will you learn a thing or two yes. But there is NO real room from growth because his ego won’t allow anyone to ever get close to it. I feel sorry for his students, some of which seem to have great potential but will never realize it under him… But they will learn one way or another, they always do. And for his “Black Belts” do yourselves a favor take them off… You’re embarrassing yourselves. And dude… Get a Job… Stop letting your old lady hold you down… Got an issue with my words… You know who I am… Now what…

Shishikan is a reality based Modern Martial Arts system with Traditional ideals. I am a life long practicing Martial Artist with rank in a divers collections of systems. I currently hold an intermediate under rank in the Shishikan Bujitsu Kai System and I can attest to the simplicity and effectiveness of its techniques. In my professional life I often put these techniques to real practice and many of times in the streets as well. The realities of the world I live in is one where walking down the street to the grocery store is an act of survival so being "too brutal" isn't something I concern myself with. When your in a situation where I knife or gun is being pulled on you or being attacked by more then one person, all that enters your mind is self preservation and Shishikan is just that... Can it be miss interpreted to someone else who's daily reality isn't as such, maybe... But the truth of the matter is I would rather be judged by 12, than carried by six... So anyone whom thinks the techniques are "overkill or to brutal" obviously has never truly been in a situation where you are protecting ones life or the life of a loved one where the only real rule or good of ethic is SURVIVAL...

Unlike any other system I have studied, Shishikan is extremely simplistic and the efficiency is proven to that end. You will learn true self defensive protection from day one despite of background or not; it is true economy of motion where every movement one makes is for the maximization of the techniques aim.

Try it out for yourself... If you don't feel the same then simply look else where... This is NOT a tournament Style or Mc Dojo were one can Buy their Rank... In the Lions Den, you EARN you way... We sweat Blood on the Dojo floor to better our skills for whatever may come in the streets... If that reality is to strong for you then Go somewhere else...

I am a certified Sensei in another style, a traditional Japanese Jujitsu located in Virginia. Hanshi Kevin Pereira invited me and my students to one of his seminars while he was visiting our state. Myself and a mid-level student went for the day, where we were instructed in various forms of realistic self defense. Some of the techniques were very similar to ones I teach myself, so I felt confident in their familiarity. Then new techniques were introduced, some of which I was completely unfamiliar with. It was amazing!! Not only did it take me back to my early martial arts days as a neophyte student, but I learned VALUABLE skills in techniques I had not seen before-these techniques I use today in my own instruction. If you are in an area where Shishikan is taught go check out a class...it is one of the most EFFECTIVE martial arts/self defense systems I have ever had the privelege of participating in!

Shishikan Lions Den dojo is one of the finest Martial Arts Schools I have had the opportunity to observe. The founder Grand Master Kevin Pereira Hanshi, is a very accomplished martial artist. His system is realistic and street effective. He has designed a system that addressed self defense and survival in any environment. Any one interested in a superior school to learn true martial arts and techniques that can and will save your life this is the school for you. You will find a friendly atmosphere were learning can be enjoyable. I highly recommend this school and it's teachers.

As a student that has tested many times and recently obtained my black belt, I can tell you this, Shishikan is as real as it gets. Anyone claiming to we are sloppy need only tell us to our face and we will inflict the "sloppy techniques" on you. These bruises aren't fake. But criticism behind an anonymous computer screen in itself make said martial artist "fake" not real. Because if you have or take issue with someone's style, system, or techniques you say it to their face, or at least not hide behind a computer. I am sensei Benjamin Llanos, I was not given this shodan I tested for four hours and fought everyone in the school to receive it. I do hide behind a negative shadow. I roar on top of a mountain. SHISHIKAN is truth, come test us. OSU!

Having trained in both classical arts and "modern" arts such as this, I see two flaws - 1) most importantly, over the top self defense, at least that's what I see in Hanshi's videos. As a police officer, heed this warning - if you did these techniques as self defense, you'd end up in jail. This goes beyond self defense and crosses into excessive use of force and borderline assault. Just be careful. 2) As a founded "new art", the founders too quickly give themselves too high a rank. 10th dan? I'm sorry but I think not. There's no doubting your skill but 10th Dan takes a lifetime of study, and you are far too young to bear that rank. Humble yourself and examine where you should fall. I've seen too many "masters" let the rank go to their head. Again, be careful. Like I said, his skill is evident but be careful with technique and don't fall into the trap of blindly doing what someone shows you without first examing whether the technique is morally justifiable. Defend yourself absolutely but for example using a knife work video recently posted, stab him the neck when you take him down? Think before you perform and think before you teach such techniques.

I learned more in 3 weeks in Shishikan than I did when I was in Karate Do years ago. The moves are fluent, fast and deadly. Hanshi is also a very patient and humble man, full of humor and life to the art. All of the fellow students including the higher ranks are great teachers and cultivators of different defense options.
