Instructions very approachable, very good with kids

First off, let me say the one reviewer who complained about a teenager teaching their kid with all the money they spent, needs to understand that some of the instructions are you going, but they all are black belts who are good instructions. They wouldn't be teaching they were not. One doesn't have to be 40 years old to be great at karate.

Now that I've addressed that, let me give you my assessment. I know a kid who came into class at 6 with ADHD, who acted out the entire class. Today, that student is 9 and is one of the best behaved, most focused kids in the class. This place can make big changes for kids with behavior issues, assuming the parents reinforce the messages from karate. There are times I wish the owner did teach more classes, but the other instructors are top notch, usually going out of their way to give individual instruction to any kid struggling with a move, whether it be during class or asking parents & kid stay for 10-15 extra minutes to get 1 on 1 time, for zero extra charge!

If this place is as bad as the other reviews say, why is it the school keeps growing, with the advanced kids and adult classes growing so fast. That would bring me to my only complaint about NFMA. The classes are growing so fast that there is a little less 1 on 1 instruction during class. It is harder to monitor a bigger class, although they have multiple instructors for bigger classes. But even there, if you as a parent complain that your kid is struggling with something, the instructions will always take the extra time after class to help.

This place is a great place for your kid to grow as a person, improve their coordination, get more assertive, or more focused.

Disappointing Four Years

Yes, you read it right, four years. Why did we stick with it that long? We honestly hoped for change. There was none. Lots of promises but zero follow through. The owner is a first rate salesman who never attends class. He leaves it to others and the communication is non existent. I listened to many, many parents complain over the years. Some stuck it out but never returned after receiving a black belt. Some just left. We are done. I could not allow the negativity of this establishment to infect our lives any longer. Please do your homework and inquire with many before you ever consider bring your business to Northeast Family Martial Arts. Don;t be pressured into joining.
